Words Of Encouragement For All The Newbie?S

Recommended Posts

Words of encouragement for all the newbie’s. Most of us were very nervous when we started this journey. For me all the tests were so overwhelming, heart, lungs, sleep apnea, ect. I thought it was taking forever. Then I had to do a six month nutrition class for my insurance to kick in, when I had finished the six months the insurance said I had lost to much weight ( I was five pounds under their guidelines ) so I did not qualify anymore. I was devastated; I gained back seven pounds and had the hospital resubmit the claim. I was approved and had my surgery on May 24th 2012.

We are all going to have our challenges- just know that it was all worth it. I was also overwhelmed by what to eat and drink and was so worried that I could not do it that I would look like a fool for getting this band and still not lose weight. I am 65 years old so this is like a last chance for me to get it right. You know what? I did get it right, I am losing about a pound a week and now can cross my legs and get into smaller pants but the best part is my self esteem is way better and my husband is so proud of me. Remember the band is just a tool you have to do the work but it is way easier than I expected. Looking back I almost gave up because of all the stuff and the insurance company, it took me a full year to have the surgery, and guess what it now seems like the time flew so do not give up keep trying to be the best you can be.

God Bless

As a newbie (banding 10/24) THANKS! I need to read all the positves I can. I know there are many here that are supportive, I just have to learn to click of the negative post and NOT read them.

I was reading posts from young ladies that sounded like they were getting discouraged and overwhelmed by the whole process so I thought I would give them a little lift and help them along.

Awesome. Thanks for encouragement Lassie! My date is 10/30, and even though I'm excited, I too am afraid of screwing it up - at 55 feeling same way about having to get it right now. So positives are really appreciated!

By the way, do I have to give up coffee? :)

Do you have to give up coffee? A lot of dr's don't recommend caffeine post band, but mine says everything in moderation. What you will have to lessen tho is the fancy coffee drinks (like frapps and such) at the coffee shops. They have a whole meals worth of calories in them. 3 yrs post band and I still have my 1-2 cups of coffee everyday. About twice a week I splurge at Dutch Bros (a drive thru coffee place in the Northwest) and get a skinny iced caramelizer. It's about 120 calories. Since I don't count calories, it fits right in! Yummy! I'm craving one now!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
