Just called my insurance company to see what the status of my surgery was and they said declined. To say I am devistated is putting it mildly! Anyone have this happen to them? Not sure what is next but I am praying that I can appeal it and have the surgery!

Did you ask why? Sometimes they just need more documentation. It doesn't mean it won't be approved just that they need additional information or documentation. Don't give up! If you didn't ask, I would suggest calling back and finding out the reason for denial (specifically) and talk to your doctors office. They will help advocate for you as well.

Good luck!

I'm really sorry about that, but don't lose hope. You can appeal and a lot of time it is overturned.

Sorry to hear that .I agree write an appeal letter.my doctor instructed me to this in the event I get denied. She told me to write to thechief of the medical group /practice I was under.but I decided to just wait and switch from *** to ppo insurance so I didn't have to go through that.

I would ask for a reason on why you were denied. Depending on your insurance company, sometimes you have to have doctor verification of at least 6 months of supervised weight loss to qualify.

I was denied today. While I was initially devasted too. Was down for a couple hours I then started thinking about all of the hard work as well as the things I have done to get this far and I am deciding to fight!! Our health and quality of life is at stake!! I stayed on the phone with Aetna for 45minutes for them to research and look into why I was denied. Which happened to because my BMI has not been over 40 for the last two years. The reason why it hasn't been over 40 the entire time is because I have been taking diet pills. Determine why you were denied and file an appeal. Thats what I'm going to do! Good Luck

Thank you all so much. I was denied because my BMI is not over 40. I had a sleep study done the next day and it showed I have mild sleep apnea. So everything was faxed back to the insurance company and now I just sit and wait again!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
