Venting About Spoiled Nsv

Recommended Posts

My surgery was August 13th. I have gone from a size 14 to a 10 since then. And have lost 22 lbs. yesterday I had on my jeans for the first time since surgery. They are baggy in the butt and I needed a belt to wear them. I made the comment that I would soon need to get rid of them. My mother turns to me and asks what size are they. When I tell her a size 10, she says that's bullshit because your ass is bigger than mine. My dear sweet husband and grown daughter both spoke up to tell me how good I look and what an amazing job I have done so far. Why can't she just say the same instead of always making fat comments??

Thanks Kristinsmommy! She has always been that way with the fat comments. The difference now since surgery is that I don't turn to comfort foods to console me when I get my feelings hurt. I just take a walk.

It really is sad when a child has to teach a parent the golden rule. How messed up is that. I'd say your mom must have some issues of her own. Kudos for not letting her problem become yours.

Just let it motivate you to do more. Ignore her, I didn't share my surgery with anyone in my family. I got my soon to be ex-husband to accompany me on surgery day because no one in the family talks to him so they wouldn't find out. My mother is EXTREMELY jealous of anything good that happens to me. She didn't raise me my grandparents did (Thank God!) No matter my hardships, I press on and it makes some people stupid. Keep up the good work and don't look back!!

We cannot pick our relatives. It's too bad your mother feels,it necessary to belittle you. But aren't you lucky to have a loving hubby and daughter to fill the void. Just ignore mom and be the better person. What goes around comes around...

There is a book out there called Toxic Parents it helps . My mother was difficult too until the day I said I don't want to play this game anymore. To bad it took me 50 years. I took the garbage until she started in on my family then I drew the line. We teach people how to treat us. Good Luck and God Bless..

I go through the same thing. Let your haters be your motivators. I've lost 70lbs and she still don't comment on it. She has gained 30lbs and I wouldn't dare make a comment to her because I know how it feels and two wrongs don't make a right. She is definitely TOXIC ..stay on your journey you will be fine

Great job! Be proud of yourself and do not let anyone burst your bubbles. I know what she says hurts but it honestly is her that is not happy in life. I am so happy for you and I can not wait until I can get rid of my clothes!

I am really sadned by reading this post because as a Mother and Grandmother I if anything praise and always compliment those I love. Especially my daughter and granddaughter. To wait for your own Mother for a compliment is a shameful part on her end as a Mother.

It goes to show you that even Mothers have a lot to learn and don't always say the nicest things, even if kidding (its still hurtful). If it bothers you so, I would speak with her about her behavior towards you. You may be surprised that she doesn't even think she is hurting you. If she has been this way with you all her life, chances are she probably hadn't much maternal love from her very own Mother and its the only way she knows.

I am nothing but a mere stranger to you, but think you are doing a magnificient job. I am also happy to have read you have a wonderful support system in your daughter and husband!

((hugs))

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
