May 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

You know what the best part of the journey is and sometimes the worst? Every doctor has a different plan. Some don't use a pre-op diet, some do. Some make you stay on liquids one month, some let you go to mushies within a week. No two paths are the same it seems.

I was told resistance training was acceptable as long as I kept it to low weight, high repetitions. I use 5 lb dumbells and do three sets of 15 for the arms. I work biceps, deltoids, triceps, pecs, etc. three days a week and the legs (mostly upper thighs) the other three days, again sticking with low weight, high reps (20 lbs right now). My exercise physiologist was cool and gave me the stamp of approval to start two weeks out. The resistance training has already started reshaping my body. It's a beautiful thang.

As I'm fond of saying, your mileage may vary and so may your doctor's advice :)

I got my present early....the MAGIC BULLET!! I can't wait to get it out of the box. So, those of you that use it, any favorite blades for shakes, tuna, & such? I am so excited.

Also, I was able to get the box my lapband came in and it shows a lot of info including the serial number. Did anyone else request the box? I think someone on here suggested it. :) I'm going to keep my preband thoughts inside along with some helpful threads here. I just look at it and realize it's really inside me. :clap2:

Hey Kim ~ Where are you? How are you doing? I hope all is well.

MarianneTN ~ Thanks for your words of wisdom....I just love the mileage thing. Oh, and the hand-made card idea is wonderful!! My kids would love to help with that. :clap2:

Best wishes and fast recovery to:

I was banded on april 29th, 2006, in beverly hills california, I have had no complications, I've healed well, and I started losing very fast until I hit about 3 1/2 weeks, then I am hungry all the time and all I can think of is food. I know that sounds wierd but I was not hungry at all for about 3 weeks, the doctor did a small fill at 3 weeks, 1.2cc but I couldn't eat that day but then the next day I didn't have any problem eating anything. that includes healthy popcorn, a small amount. I thought this would be easier as far as the hungry thing goes, I guess i need a tighter fill, but when he was giving me the fill, I could hardly swallow, any advise from anybody would be helpful, I am one month out today!!

I go for my first fill this afternoon!! I have now officially been banded for 4 weeks today. It sure has gone by fast. My recovery has been incredibly easy, just some tenderness around the port area but other than that I'm good! I will report back with my fill experience later on!

Kelly Girl~

I live near Texarkana, Texas. What part of north-east Texas are you from? I was banded in Texarkana by a team of fantastic doctors. They are a husband/wife team, and I will have my fills included in my first year follow-ups. My doctor has told me of patients that have had their surgery in Mexico, but are coming to them for their fills. (of course no names were mentioned) I will get my first fill June 29th. I am having to make a trip out of town, and he thought it best to wait until I get back so I could be close "just in case". I was banded on May 3rd.

Judy Ann

Judy Ann-

I live in Quitman, Texas. (By Lake Fork).

I was banded on Sat. (May 27th) in Acuna, Mexico. I and am home now

and even went to work today. I feel great. Just a little gas pain in my shoulders. I am looking for a fill Dr that will see Mexico patients.

Would u mind telling me your Dr's name?

How are you doing?

Please let us know how the fill went. I want to hear all about it..

We are all almost at the end of our birth month and it seems all has work well with the May 2006 Band Crew...

Now you first week people need to start checking in with some statistics and reporting of your situations...

Damn, I am so happy I started this thread has it seems to be a good place for our Crew to report , share, explain and the most important part to me is the SUPPORT!!!

Hi 3loves,

I bought the Magic Bullet about 3 weeks before my surgery and I love it!! It was the best thing to get to make all the mushy stuff that you want. I just made some chicken salad yesterday and used the long blades, blended in short spurts, then shook the cup, and did that until I got the consistency that i wanted. It's very easy to make it too mushy, so be careful not to blend too much.

I also make smoothies with it in the blender attachment. You will love your Bullet!

Good luck to the last of the May bandsters today!!! It's not bad at all. I'm 5 days out and feeling great!

If you are near Dallas and have an Inamed band, Dr. Jayaseelan will fill Mexican bands. You might also try SCOR (The Surgery Center of Richardson.) They fill under fluro and may do Mexican patients. I do know for sure that Dr. Jay does though. Just Google Dr. Jayaseelan Medical City. It should come up immediately.

Please let us know how the fill went. I want to hear all about it..

Hi! My fill went fine yesterday. He did an ultrasound on my belly to locate my port and didn't hit it on the first stick. He then rechecked with the ultrasound and found it right away on the next needle stick. The needle was pretty huge but I didn't look at it until after he pulled it out. I heard a soft popping noise when the needle acessed the port. He then had me stand up and drink a bit of Water while he adjusted the amount of saline in the band. I ended up with 1cc added in a 4cc band. Not bad to start! The appointment took awhile, like almost an hour but he says my next fill will be easy since he knows exactly where the port is now. I stopped after the appointment on my way back to work and got a pintos and cheese from Taco Bell and was only able to eat half of it and I was stuffed. I stayed full for about 4 hours! This morning I was able to eat a small bowl of Cereal then a fruit smoothie/protein shake (that I made with my Magic Bullet!) on my drive in to work.

I was more afraid of the fills than I was the actual surgery. Me and needles don't get a long too well!! :guess

Hey jane we are doing great Glad to hear things are well with you. We had our first soft meal memorial day. Baked sock eye salmon with baked sweet potato at our daughters. She was amazed at the small amount of food we consumed. Boy was it great.

The swelling has gone down but I am still having pain in my left sholder blade area. Not to bad but just enough to annoy. Anna knees don't hurt any longer. There is one side effect to the lap band that I love NO MORE SNORING:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Keep us informed.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
