Hello, everyone! My name is Tim, and I just joined.

My wife and I are being banded on October 24. We are lucky enough to self-fund the surgeries, so we didn't have to go through a lot of insurance hoops (neither of our insurances will cover bariatric surgery). We would have loved to have the surgery earlier in October, but the surgeon said we would not be able to drive for a week after the surgery, and I have many commitments in October.

We are really looking forward to this life change!

Hi Tim! Welcome, I noticed your wife is being banded the same day? How did you come to that decision? My wife and I are being banded a week apart. We thought about the same day but then decided a week apart. I think there are pros and cons to both. Do you have friends or family coming to help?

Yes, we have plenty of family in town. If we did not, we wouldn't have scheduled for same day.

We both feel that it will be easier with the pre and post op diets if we are on the same schedule.

I agree with that. I'm glad my wife and I are only a week apart but it's been hard this week because she started her presurgical diet this week and I don't start mine until Monday. Best of luck to you.

What type of presurgical prep is everyone doing? We have two weeks of Optifast. I start Monday.

I start October 1 with 1000 calories made up of prtein shakes and 2 CPUs of vegetables.

I've been trying out various brands and flavors. I'm really glad I'm doing the taste tests.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
