Caffeine During Pre Op Diet

Recommended Posts

Wondering what everyone did in regards to caffeine during pre op. I am talking 1 large tea a day. I can't remember what the nutritionist told me and I start tomorrow. Not a huge deal, just wondering.

I wasn't given any caffeine restrictions.....my biggest weekness is sweet tea and sugar is definately a no no. When I am at home, I have crystal light but, when I go out, unsweetened caffeinated tea with sweet and low is my go to drink. I do find, however, that because there is less in my tummy, I have a hard time sleeping if I have it too late in the evening.

I am less that one week away from surgery day....good luck to you! :)

No restrictions for pre-op, but no caffeine for 2 weeks post op. It's weird I drank coffee religiously every morning and now I barely have it.

Double check with your office. I was instructed to only use Decaf tea and coffee for two days before and after surgery.

I was told that since caffiene is a diuretic to limit the intake to 8oz per day. They want you really well hydrated before surgery and caffiene can counteract that.

Thanks all, guess my 1 morning hot tea should be okay. I have the pepperment ready to go post surgery for the gas and am okay to not have caffeine. I also got come instant coffee to add if the 4 shakes a day get too boring.

My pre-op diet says "avoid" caffeine. It's my one last thing I got and I'm keeping it til the last minute. :-)

i was told no caffeine what so ever. I didn't question why. because when i did the south beach diet the book explains that more than 2 cups of coffee messes with your insulin or blood sugar something like that so to only drink Decaf. so today i bought my decaf coffee and all my sugar free syrups that i like. use your best judgement but i've heard it from lots of ppl to stay away from caffeine in any form. so watch out for energy shots too they are usually loaded with caffeine but they do have some caffeine free ones.

Coffee and Caffeine hinder weight loss

Yes, it can do. Some people lose additional pounds after stopping

coffee

or caffeine. Studies have shown that caffeine (as in coffee and some sodas) contributes to insulin resistance (thus making it harder to lose weight), increases appetite (again making it harder to lose weight) and contributes to food cravings (making it difficult to adhere to a weight loss diet). In those studies, even decaffeinated coffee is shown to be detrimental to weight loss.

Caffeine also interferes with GABA and prevents it from performing its calming duties in the human

body

. This then increases physiological and psychological stress (often associated with both overeating and difficulty adhering to a weight loss diet). Those who are trying to lose body fat (weight) would do well to avoid caffeine.

My pre-op instructions from NYU include up to 2 glasses of coffee a day. I'm not complaining about this one. I think giving up coffee would have been harder than solid foods! :)

I don't have any coffee restrictions except for sf requirement. I wish I could give it up; right now mine is the watered down version, the family calls it hot brown Water. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
