Would Like A Mentor, Please

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just got banded a week ago & have been rigidly following my Lap Band binder that was given to me by my surgeon. I'm new at this & don't know anybody who has had it done, so I need someone to mentor me. I still have 5 days to go until I can start on mushy foods. I don't know anything about 'fills'. I'm finally off the pain meds & feeling good again.

Let me know if you'd like to help me along!

Thanks,

Michelle

Michelle, I would be glad to suport you through your journey. I am almost 2 years post op and have lost 115 lbs. I started near your weight at 252 and currently weight 137. I am 5 lbs from goal. I have been active on this site since surgery, I don't personally blog as much as I used to but I still read the forums and respond to topics. There is also a fairly large group of us from this site who are friends on myfitnesspal.com and are trying to help each other through this journey. Good luck to you, Diane

Hi Michelle, I am fairly new to the band also, 3 weeks post op, and new to this site. Seems that there are a lot of people that are in the same place as us or have been ther already. I have not lost anything since surgery. But am told it is normal. Excited to get my first fill on 9/6. The only advice I can give you at the moment is to follow the book the best you can. When you get to regular food, chew, chew, chew and chew some more. Small bites. I have only had a problem once with food getting stuck. Thought I was going to DIE!! Once I vomited I felt much better. But it took a whild to get to that point. Just follow what they tell you. You will do great I'm sure.

@ Zinhaa: I'm not looking for someone in my area particularly. Just someone I can 'talk' to here.

Thank you so much for replying to me! I'm not on mushy food yet, but I can't wait!! I'm so hungry now all the time. I'll have some yogurt, or a shake & it will tide me over for an hour or so, then I'm starving again. I just keep drinking Water. :(

Hi, I am here if you need me. I've been banded for 3 months and am down 38 pounds, it hasn't been hard for me as far as eating and exercising. I haven't had a fill yet, so I can't help you there. It's not often that I get hungry,On my visit last month, the nurse told me that sometimes the doctor get the band in the right location and you are in the "green" zone from the beginning. and the he must have placed mine the the right spot and will more than likely never need a fill. Good Luck to you on your journey knowing that you will do well.

I have been banded just a month. I started at 218 and now 201. Seventeen pounds better than if I had nothing, so going to take it! Honestly, I lost most of it BEFORE surgery. I really thought I would be down at least 30 Lbs. in the first month, but it didn't happen. My suggestion to you is stick with it and start some sort of exercise program. I hate it, but I do it and walk on my treadmill twice a day, morning 15 minutes & 15 in evening, watching reruns of I Love Lucy and Andy Griffth. My husband is very supportive. Do you have support at home? Do you or did you have overlaying medical problems? I was on hands-full of meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. I'm off all Rx meds now except 2. Where do you live and what is weight goal? Angelizz in NC.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
