:phanvan Good Morning all! I am really depressed today,I got on the scale and I have only lost 13 pounds since my banding(3/8/06).My friend and I are doing this as a buddy system she looks like she lost weight and I look the same(hmm think I'm seeing the greeneyed buddy)I have been drinking Water, the shake 2x a day and pureed bean Soup ( tired of it now) for dinner. I thought I would lose more since I am being so strict and not cheating (boy do I want too)I went to a party and drank Isopure applemelon on the rocks instead of apple martini's (lol fooled a few people I think).Didn't eat anything just looked at the buffet. Now my friend has eaten mashed potatoes and pudding and has lost more(20lbs).I walked for about 15 mins a day last week for 3 days but seem to get really tired quickly.(I am back to work but not doing anything strengous)So what am I doing wrong?Still struggling with the 64 oz of Fluid, I get about 48-50.

Ummm...... 13 lbs in 12 DAYS??????

You're nuts. There's nothing more to be said.

Actually, sorry, but you're really just going to have to get over this. You were banded 12 days ago and are still healing. Haven't you heard this time is not about weight loss? It's about healing! You are not your friend and she is not you.

You're not going anything wrong, did you really think you'd lose a pound a day for any length of time?? Well, you won't. If you don't lose another pound for the next six weeks you'll still be right on target. Ahead of schedule, actually, since you'll still be pre-fill.

Cheer up! You're doing great!!

Thank you for the encouragement. I thought I was suppose to lose like 25-30 pounds the 1st month lol atleast thats what a friend who had the banding done first told me, so I was concerned I was doing something wrong.Gonna see Dr A on Wedensday and just wanted to be on target with my results.I don't mean to sound ungrateful for what I have lost, I am happy because the scale is going down not up and I have not had any negative problems, like some of the banders here.

Yes, as usual Alex gave you true words of wisdom...now listen to them!!! :-) Whatever weight you loss prior to your first fill or even 2nd fill..or longer depending on what kind of band you have is a bonus. You have to watch comparing yourself to friends...everybody and I do mean everybody loses their weight differently...we are all in this journey together in a lot of ways, but for that piece of it...it is one's own journey. ;-)

So what am I doing wrong?

Comparing yourself to your friend! That's what you're doing wrong. The average weight loss for bandsters is 1-2 pounds a week. Get that firmly implanted in your head right now ok? And.. this is not the time to be worried about losing weight. This is healing time. Prior to getting a fill, no weight loss is expected.. in fact, it's common to gain a few pounds as you progress from liquids to solids. So, cheer up! You're doing wonderfully.

Stay off the scales and stop comparing yourself to someone else. Bodies are so different in the way they respond to this kind of thing, it's really not fair to you or to your friend to try and compare. *hugs*

It is great that you've lost 13 lbs! Remember when you used to GAIN 13 lbs instead? I understand your concern. I have to keep reminding myself that the band is NOT a miracle cure for obesity. It works slower than a gastric bypass. You did not gain the weight overnight and it not going to come off any faster. Many people in life can (and do) beat you up emotionally. You certainly don't need to do it to yourself. You are doing fantastic......it takes courage to even go through the banding. Be good to yourself. You are beautiful and strong and you can do this!

valentine...i too was concerned because i wasn't losing any weight and the people on this forum are right...you should concentrate on healing right now and don't beat yourself up. i really put myself through the wringer when i should have been more concerned with getting better.the people on this forum are right and they are always full of great info....chin up! you are doing great! i have lost 10 lbs since my band and that is better results than any of the things i have tried in the past. all the best!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
