Bahamas Cruise In 6 Weeks, 5 Day Pouch Test

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I got banded on March 9. I've lost about 12-15 lbs so far (the scale keeps going up and down these 3 lbs).

I'm going on my 1st cruise next month and I desperately need something to break this plateau and get the scale moving down again. I workout at least 3 days a week and I meet with my personal trainer often. I can see my body changing, and I'm losing inches, but the scale is really not moving at the pace that I desire ...

All that being said - I'm on a mission to lose 10 lbs in the next 6 weeks, and/or HOPEFULLY fit into a cute all sequin dress for the captain's dinner on my cruise. So I'm gonna start the 5 day pouch plan tomorrow morning, starting with the 2 day liquid diet of low carb Protein shakes .... for the weeks that follow I plan to carefully watch (I dont want to use the word "limit") my bad carbs - potatoes, rice, bread, Pasta, sugar, etc - and try and stick to the 1 cup per meal rule (which I really havent even been monitoring over the past month or so).

So .... I share this with you because I need something to actually hold me accountable. So I'm gonna post my progress (or lack thereof) on this thread for the duration of my 6 week journey. I just ask that you guys put me in my place when I post that I'm not sticking to the plan, and provide motivation, etc when I'm staying on track.

Also, if I'm successful, maybe some of us out here can use this thread as a blueprint to break a plateau. I'll post stats (weight, measurements, exercise) in the thread, and I want some feedback from the seasoned bandsters out there since I'm only 5 month into my journey.

Thanks for looking!

Have you lost "alot" of weight right away?(say like fifty pounds or so? or a good percentage of the total weight you want to loose?). Sometimes if this happens the body slows itself down to give the skin a chance to catch up. Platus are common and if you keep on eating right and working out on a regular baisis your body will snap out of it and you will start loosing at a good clip again.

Hey all! I didnt lose a lot of weight fast. During the 1 week liquid pre-op diet I only lost 3 lbs, and I've only lost about 10 lbs after surgery.

I do eat Protein first, but I have been eating bad carbs and veggies at about the same rate.

I am on myfitnesspal, my screen name is sunnyhoney11. My food diary is public, please add me guys!!

So let me tell you how day 1 went - SIGH - well .... I woke up almost ravenously hungry, so I ate some veggie straws (kinda like potato chips but they are shaped like sticks and made with ground potato, Tomato, and spinach) ... so there goes the day of all liquids on the 1st day!!!

SO basically I had a solid lunch, and liquid Breakfast and liquid dinner. I took in under 1100 calories so maybe I didn't do too bad. I shall try again tomorrow for the all liquids. I'll post a picture of the dress I want to fit in for the cruise as well (added motivation).

Thanks all for following me on this journey!!! :)

Good luck to you! Im definitely in the same boat as far has being stuck after losing the first 20lbs and the scale continues to go up and down. Also, potatoes, rice, & Pasta have always been the food i ate before my surgery and ive drastically tried to limit them afterwards, but havent seen much of a difference yet. But i wish you well on your weight loss.

Thanks for all the support guys! I couldnt do it without you! So ... it looks like day 2 is also gonna be 2 liquid meals and 1 solid meal ... SIGH!!!

I had a burger on a bed of lettuce (no bun) for lunch ... but I did eat some potato wedges (ugggggg) ...

I'm going to the gym tonight and I'm well under my calorie limit so far .... so hopefully this at least yeilds some results. I'll try to post measurements tonight (just gotta find my tape measure).

I've been on half a dozen cruises since lapband, with 2 more scheduled in the next 9 months. I'll tell you that, as an experienced cruiser, cruises and lap-band doesn't mix that well. There is so much food available, unfortunately, including ice cream and other sweets 24/7.

I know your question is about preparing; but I'll tell you that it is more what you do once you hit the ship. The average person (non-banded gains an average of a pound a day on the ship... so if you can maintain during your cruise, count it a huge victory.

But enjoy yourself... but when you go to the buffet, (or even to the restaurant), know where the restrooms are.

Luckily we signed up for the "sit-down" meals and not the buffet - or so I THINK - ... and I'll have to make a rule for myself not to eat after 9pm each night (hoping that's an attainable goal). I plan to exercise on the ship and do some walking ... do they have Zumba on cruise ships now? That would be awesome if they did ...

So day 3 went ALL out of whack .... yesterday was actually pretty good in comparison.

I stayed up until 4am bc I partied with my friends, went to a nightclub and danced and got sweaty (yay to burning calories) ... but when I woke up late for work at 9am, I didn't plan out a good Breakfast. I walked into work at 10:30 to TWO boxes full of dunkin donuts (UGGGGGG) I broke down and ate half a donut this morning. AT least I drank a Protein shake with my donut in hopes of regulating the sugar spikes <IDK how accurate that is>

lunch wasnt bad, as I had some baked chicken wings and some broccoli and diet iced tea ...

I need to focus! I'll keep you guys posted on my progress this evening as I am going to a CRAB FEAST ... luckily that's all Protein and no carbs, but they have additional items like hot dogs and rolls, potato salad, alcohil beverages and Desserts ... I'm just gonna focus on the lean protein from the steamed crabs.

I did well at the crab feast last night .... I focused on the lean Protein from the steamed crabs and I had a garden salad and some white meat chicken salad. No dessert - victory will be mine!!!

Soft Proteins today, tuna, scrambled eggs, etc. and Fiber chewables.< /p>

Anyway, here is the pic of the dress that I want to fit into ... I'm gonna try it on today just for kicks. I can get it on but I can only zip it halfway!!!

So (for the ladies) my cycle came today and that's screwing up the scale right now ... but I worked out tonight and I ate high Protein low carb all day. I'm excited to see what the scale says when the cycle is over! To be continued!

Oh i feel exhilarated!!!!! I ate around 1000 calories and i didnt feel starved yesterday, and today I'm "projected" (if I stick by my plan) to eat less than 1000 calories today! I also paid for my on-shore excursions of ATV riding and power snorkeling for the cruise! Oh I'm so pumped and I'm glad I have you guys here to share it with.

Im doing TRX at the gym tonight, and yesterday I did spinning class and an abs workout. I'll try on the dress again next week.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
