Pre-Op And I Am A Hungry, Hungry Hippo!

Recommended Posts

my preop diet seems like a walk in the park compared to the 2 week liquid diets everyone talks about

My doc just said i should be on Atkins for 2 weeks before surgery' date=' does that make sense? (is it possible he made a mistake? or that i misunderstood his orders?!)[/quote']

I was on atkins for two weeks also. It's not a mistake. I had surgery on the 7th and it went great! My liver shrunk perfectly.

Well, this has been great! Thanks everyone for your encouragement, ideas, or even just sharing your own frustration.....Two weeks until surgery, and now it's time to get serious! My sister got married this weekend, so I ate a couple of things that weren't on the plan. However, I had started the pre-op diet ahead of time. Now, no more room for error!

I'm having two Protein shakes a day and a Lean Cuisine meal, per doctor's orders. They also recommend a whole bunch of low-cal drinks (Diet Snapple, Crystal Light, etc.) that I can't have due to a sucralose sensitivity.

Here we go (for realz now)!!!

Be thankful you get the lean cruise. I had only 3 shakes a day and then 3 days of Clear liquids and that was the hardest and I knew I could not mess up the 3 day Clear Liquids because they will not operate if your bowels are not empty.

What I did to help myself is to do my first shake late in the morning. I had problems with Constipation and I had to take a few laxative during that week. I say do what you are suppose to do and it will pay off on recovery. I feel my recovery is speedy. I am on my 8 day post op and after day 3 I could get up on my own with out using my husband or a near by chair. Today, my stiches are still a little soar and itchy, but my stomach muscle are ok now.

I only loss 10 pounds on the pre opt liquid diet for 14 days and after surgery I gained 7 pounds from Fluid ans swelling and by the 5th day I was back at surgery weight and today on day 8, I am 4.3 more pounds since surgery. I am on this liquid diet now with strained cream Soups, sf pudding which I add Protein powder for added Protein, non fat cottage cheese, non fat greek yogurt. and 70-80 grams of protein and I am using Isopure which is 2 scoops have 50 grams of protein which is very filling after surgery. I have to put it in 1/2 of warm Water to get it to disolve and of course the 64 ouces of Water. So after surgery, you will have a hard time getting it all in.

I caved and had a Nutri-Grain bar yesterday, but I still have more than two weeks to the surgery, I won't have any "accidents" after Sunday, I swear!

My sister is getting married on Friday, so I have two days of travel now.....wish me luck!

We will all get through this together.

Hi Binab! Lap band sisters, yeah!!! :P

I too am being banded on the 27th of August. I started the diet on the 13th, The first day was not too bad. I had my shakes. Bariatric Advantage had some good flavors, the Iced Latte is good and so is the chocolate. I also was told adding fruit to my shakes was ok, but not banannas since they have a lot of sugar in them. Today I woke up hungry, and would looove french toast. But I digress.... On to having another shake. broth may help as well, its easy and can be found just about anywhere, Watch out for the high sodium though.

Good Luck Ladies!!!

I am being banded Aug. 23. I started my pre-op yesterday. My dr. doesn't require it but I felt it be in my best interest to do it anyway to ensure a smooth procedure. So while I'm trying to stick to all liquids; Protein Shakes, broth, Water w/ Crystal Light, sf Jello and popsicles I did eat a boiled egg last night. Still no carbs so that wasn't so bad especially since I am not REQUIRED to do the pre-op diet. But I am SO hungry (mostly head hunger) and want to sink my teeth into some meat!!!

Ive done good until yesterday, I ate a darn white castle burger.... Uggghhhhh! I have not been feeling good, getting bad headaches and all. The headache actually stopped after the burger. I guess Im gonna have to try to get it out of my system. Crystal Light fruit Punch and Raspberry Green Tea are really good cold.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
