So I'm on my pre op healthy diet to shrink my liver and reduce fat (1000-1200 calories) but I was wondering can I have salt? Because I've been making lots of healthy Soups, using pepper and herbs but it's just not the same without a bit of salt in it but I'm not sure I'm allowed? Help?!

I bought Bob Harpers book "Skinny Rules" and he says we should have less than 2000 milligrams of salt each day. I notice sodium in everything I eat, I don't currently log it (I could on myfitnesspal.com), probably should!

I think Dr Oz said to stay at about 1500! you will notice a difference if you can get in the habit of using herbs instead. I have started to use Mrs Dash's salt free seasonings. I honesty didn't think I would like them but, I love them!!! I bought the one for chicken and use it each week when I roast a turkey breast. It tastes so good. I roast with low sodium chicken broth & Mrs Dash. I baste throughout the oven time, very juicy, amazing, low fat, high Protein, yummy!

Too much salt is really bad for you. Most of us tend to chuck it in our cooking without really thinking. My mother always put salt in the Water when she was cooking vegetables etc and of course I did the same. I have now cut all that out. I try to flavour food with herbs and spices. So many foods have so much salt in them anyway ( soy sauce, worcester sauce, stock cubes.......) that we really don't need to add any more.

it may take a while but you will eventually get used to eating less salt and it is much better for your health in the long run.

Hypertension runs in my mother's family...so I grew up without salt being added to anything except scrambled eggs. eggs are still the only thing I add salt to. Using even a bit of salt has the potential to cause you to retain fluids.

I was served horrible, dry "institution scrambled eggs" every morning while hospitalized for over a week post car accident...and they only gave me Mrs. Dash for seasoning.

It took me over a year before I could even look at a scrambled egg, much less eat one. I'm still working on the Mrs Dash...it's a good product, I just can't tolerate it yet...

like sojo and elcee said, salt is not overly good. its in everything just about. i do not use it and try not to use things with sodium as it makes you retain water...hub of mine uses half and half

I notice salt in everything. Wayyyy to salty. I bought a 4 pack of individual Knudsen cottage cheese and could barely eat it because I found it so salty. 410 mgs for 4 oz!

Maybe I'm just sensitive to it.

Wow guys, thanks for your advice, yea there is an unbelievable amount of salt in things! But on this diet I've only been eating fresh fruit and veg and skimmed milk and skinless oven baked chicken breast. I don't add salt into anything except vegetable Soup and I was just wondering would it affect my liver shrinking? Trying to be as healthy as possible for my op so I guess no salt for me :P

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
