I work for an airline and my job is extremely physical. I lift a lot of weight oush and pull extremely large objects, open and close aircraft doors that weigh 100's of pounds and my Doc said it was perfectly fine to return to work in 10 days. Besides some port pain, I am ready to go, as I a bored. I also had a large hiatal hernia repaired.

I think 4 weeks might be a while for any job. My surgery was on a Friday, I went back to work on the Monday. I'm a receptionist though, so aside from minor lifting daily, I'm sitting most of the day.

I'm retired...but if I had still been working, I would have been totally ready to return to work in 2 weeks.

A month off does seem excessive; would there be any "modified" work that you could still do (avoiding lifting, etc) for a couple of weeks as you continue to heal?

I work mostly sitting but some lifting boxes etc (records). I went back after two weeks (had vacation for one, scheduled it a week longer just in case) and I was definitely ready to go back. When I did finally go back I had to lift a box that day and I was a little sore but didn't hurt, just like a stiff muscle feeling. I was tired by the end of the day but no pain. If it helps, my dr. has had me walking and exercising since after week 1. I go back to Cross Fit this week and it is pretty major working out (push ups, kettle bells, running, up downs, jumping rope, lifting weights, etc.) - and that will be one month. I think you should do what your dr. recommends but maybe talk to him again? I think four weeks sounds excessive BUT he/she does know best.

I'm an LVT so my job is physical. If I had taken 4 weeks I would have gone crazy. I went back on day 7, but felt ready on day 5

I'm a nurse, and can delegate the lifing of people/supplies for a while. I plan to do this for atleast 3 wks or so to be safe. I'm not going on "light duty" or anything but just plan to not lift on anyone for a while. Take care...

I'm a server. I only asked for a week off but I have dropped my shifts that are after the week because I don't think I'm going to be okay enough for a 6+ hour shift. I'm going to go back Wednesday and I asked my manager for a light schedule-no doubles, no lounge shifts.

I am a nurse. I took off 2 weeks and felt more than ready to go back. 4 weeks is a long time. Maybe for Gastric Bypass but not lapband. On that note, if you have 4 weeks of vacation, it might not be a bad thing but I would not exhaust all my vacation time for the band,

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
