I'm being banded on Tuesday and I cant wait to have something...anything with hot sauce! anyone have problems with spicy food after their surgery? I love hot spicy food and worry about burning and such. Also just wondering what other foods people have problems with..I know some can eat bread and some can't and also have heard some of you say things about dairy products..anything else? I know we're all different but I like to what other people have experianced.

I ate hot food before and after my surgery. I love extremely spicy/hot green chili. I love to make Pad Thai or stir fry and I add Sriracha garlic/chili sauce to my asian meals. I also add jalapeno's to my eggs and omelettes. Hasn't bothered me a bit.

Well keep in mind you are going to be on liquids, then mushy for awhile. You could maybe do refried Beans at a mushy stage with some hot sauce on it, but that will be down the line.

I have found that all of a sudden with my last fill I am less tolerant of HOT stuff, I can eat it to a degree but once i hit 7 in my band, I got more sensitive.

You might be able to put some hot stuff that is liquid in some of the full liquids when you get to that point.

You might find your bread craving heads out the door, I know mine did for the most part.

I love spicy Mexican and Chinese food. But now, I can't drink while eating (or I'll actually vomit), so it limits the spiciness I can have. I can eat anything - just in smaller amounts. I've fnd 2 things I can't: pineapple chunks and deep dish pizza crust. Both of those are no-go's. I eat sandwiches (I can only eat 1/2 now), Pasta, rice, and potatoes frequently. That's not saying that you'll be able to eat them tho. You're right, we're all different. You need to look at the reasoning behind those people who don't eat certain things. Alot of people are doing low carb dieting after the band. That limits your food. For me, the reason I had the band was so that I would never have to diet again. To tell me that I can't have bread anymore would be torture. I haven't dieted in the last almost 3 yrs and have been quite successful. A few problems have arisen in the last few months (a slipped band), but it didn't have anything to do with my intake of certain foods.

Anyway, I can still eat spicy foods, but I can't drink with them so what's the point? I'm uncomfortable afterwards. Good luck to you!

I looove spicy food. Sriracha is my ketchup! Unfortunately spicy food gave me painful heartburn the first couple months post op so I avoided it. Slowly am starting to eat spice again (hot chili, pad Thai, etc) with no more issues.

I only have 1cc in my band, however my doctor says I'm in the green zone. I can tolerate pretty much anything, I just find certain foods easier to chew than others (salad, and thick beef are not the easiest for me).

you are exactly like me. I just LOVE spicy food. In the past ive always jars of hot chilli open in the fridge and especially in the cold weather would spread it or stir it into just everything. I was lapbanded 23rd march this year. I was on liquids for a couple of weeks. it was really hard just having clear Soups so i started putting a little chilli in my clear Soup. It seemed o.k. I was also using mod salsa.... just spooning that into home made soup. I was also using garlic seasoning, as a salt. the flavour was wonderful. At the same time i was having Protein Shakes, using low fat milk and yoghurt in the drink. I dont usually have milk in any form. Anyway, i started getting really bad griping pains in my lower and mid abdo. so bad some nights that i would have to leave the clearing up from tea to the guys to finish. I was really ill some nights with it. I had a tremendous amount of wind as well. I decided that the pain was due to what i was putting in my soups and Protein Drink so i cut out the milk. that helped emmensly. I did cut back on the chilli as well. Lately however, ive got the ''wind'' pain back again as bad as ever. i had been increasing my chilli to about a generous half teaspoon at a meal. Once again, of a night, im doubled over in pain. once again, lots of abdo wind. So.... i have to concede that its the chilli that has given me the trouble in my gut. No problems with the stomach and the band itself... but in the gut. Im cutting right back now and i hate to do it. i just love spicy foods. Im goign to have to wean myself off them though.... i cant be off colour like this every night... its not worth the effort. by the way... my dr was told what i was putting in my soups and he had no problems with it at all. In fact, he said that he would join me for a meal. lol.

ugh :( sounds like I should have eaten a bucket of hot wings before I started my liquid diet. Oh well new life in on track...hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones who will be able to tolerate the hot stuff... If you read up on spicy stuff it really speeds up the metabolism and has other benefits as well. I remember my moms friend used to drink a tablespoon of hotsauce and garlic everyday swearing she never got sick because of it...she was a little cookey though so who knows.....

I love spicy food! I eat it all the time. I will say, for me, I had to "work my way back up" to the level of spiciness that I like as my stomach wasn't quite ready for it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
