Stuck At First Every Time I Eat Anything

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and/or if it gets better. I got my band in February, everything has gone well. Last week I had an additional fill. Since then I feel like anything I eat no matter what it is or how mushy it is gets stuck initially, the first few bites are like this. I have the stuck feeling and then after a couple of minutes it passes. After the first few bites it seems fine and everything goes down fine. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it go away or should I have some Fluid taken out? It has been 7 days since the fill.

Thanks!

I also had my band in February.. And I also experience the same exact thing! To tell you the truth, I appreciate my band giving me these signs and reminders that it's there...

Helps me slow down, appreciate the food, and stop while I'm ahead. I think were good!

However, if after a few more days the fill hasn't settled and u feel pain while eating u may want to call the doc.

Best of luck!!!!!

Hi:

I used to get first bite syndrome when I ate too fast. Are you taking time between your bites? I used to use a one-minute timer to slow me down. I hope things improve. If not, you should probably go get a slight unfill.

Good luck!

Sue

I had that. It got really old so I had a few cc removed. Since my food came up every meal I had a burrium swallow to make sure things were ok. ( they were) I am going to try it in a few weeks.

I get stuck quite a bit but i use it as a reminder to slow down and take much smaller bites. I basically cut any meat up into baby size bits and i put my fork down between bites. This makes me slow down and then i don't have quite the same number of stuck episodes. However there are some foods that stick no matter what i do - like lettuce. Being a rabbit at heart this is very upsetting to me - i luv luv luv salad and since my last fill just can't seem to find anyway that i can eat it comfortably. Oh well that's a small price to pay. I've been dropping 2 pounds a week and i'm very happy with that so i'll be glad to sacrifice the salad.

Have you tried a few sips of hot tea/coffee??? I had a similiar problem (mine cause by allergies causing a "plug" over the band opening) and the nurse mentioned that a few sips of the warm liquid helps to release that "plug". Maybe it will help you as well.

I do this alot! I get so exicted and anxious to eat that i literally swallow the food and therefore it gets stuck. I literally have to sit there and think "ok chew chew chew or your going to run to the toilet" Also, try not to be starving when your going to eat your meal. Snacks helps me alot because when it comes to dinner or lunch I don't eat as fast especially that first bite!

I find I have a rough time for the week and a half post fill. Make sure you drink something prior. I also will do hot tea for the week or so after to relax the band a bit and loosen it up a bit. I call it waking up my band!

You probably still have swelling from the fill which is normal! Also make sure that you do not take any Vitamins, Advil or pills prior to eating by half hour to an hour. I have to wait an hour recently after a fill, and the longer into it I can take it a half hour before. If i reverse it and take pill after it will come up.

Also if you have a PB episode then you could feel tighter, as it will irritate.

Have you tried the leafy Romaine lettuce? The darker the green the better which is why the leafy one is easier to mush down to nothing. It has better nutrition too, I am at 7cc and I too am a Rabbit. It also helps me when I am eating chicken that is too dry then I eat some salad with it and it fixes the problem. Just a thought!

Ughhhhh...Happens to me almost every time too!!! At times it really is horrific! It completely bums me out. And then I get the constant questions from friends and family wondering if I'm okay. And guess what?! I can't answer you at the moment!!! Lol But they don't get it, and I know they're only concerned cuz they think I'm in pain or may be on the verge of throwing up. I thought something may be wrong but I'm glad to see that it actually is pretty normal. I definitely think the air thing may be my culprit. I'm going to try to sip on something before to see if that realizes that. Thanks for that tip! And good luck everyone. I know it's no fun when it happens.

I had my first fill two days ago and felt the same thing - I wasn't certain my band was still there till it gave me this sign. I was stuck for a few minutes, then OK but I was glad to be reminded to take smaller bites and slow down. I also have to remember to stop eating when I feel like I've had enough. I've been finishing whatever is on my plate so I need to put less on the plate. It's really easy to fall off the wagon but worth the effort to get back on.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
