Jaclyn, what an amazing accomplishment! It helps us all to know that it can be done. I don't suppose you would be willing to post some before and after pictures, I would love to see them, hint hint.

WOW....that's truly amazing glossylips!! I truly hope to get there someday... I don't think I ever truly believed it would be possible for me personally to ever lose even 100 pounds with the band...now I'm at almost 150, so now 200 pounds lost some day is looking more and more within reach. You are a true inspiration!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Welcome to the 100 pound club!

I hit the 100 pound mark! Woooohooooo! It took me almost exactly one year from being banded, but the weight is continuing to come off, as long as I keep working at it. Here's my before/after (about a month ago):

Wow puddinpie you look fantastic. I am hoping to have the band done in December have to do the pre prep program for insurance to pay so have to wait till then. I am currently 316 and it has been great reading this thread to know 100 lbs or more is possible.

If you could give one piece of advice what would you say.

Thanks

...If you could give one piece of advice what would you say...

First of all, congrats on your upcoming surgery! It's very exciting.

If I could give one piece of advice it would be to count calories in and calories out with a fierce tenacity. I can probably eat a whole lot more food than most bandsters, but that's because I exercise like a mad woman, so I get to eat more. I like it better that way because I like to have the increased energy so I can play harder. On average, I'm eating about 1,200-1,500 calories each day. But I like to ride my road bike about 16 miles to and from work every day and then I work out about 45 minutes to an hour each day. In addition I play on a futsol team. So I like to have the energy to do these things by eating more. But you could have the same results just by cutting out more food and getting a tighter fill and exercising less.

And I know you all have heard me preach this before and are probably sick of hearing it, but I wear a device on my arm called the Body Bugg that counts all the calories I burn on a daily basis and then have this online system that goes with it where I log all my food. I can predict exactly what I'm going to lose in a week. It's been a lifesaver. I believe the price just dropped to $400 (they have some new competition). I paid $500 for mine.

I think some bandsters don't have the time or energy to count exactly what they're eating. And if they're losing weight, more power to them. I heard a quote once, however, that said "Whatever is measured and recorded, improves." I believe that. If you have a choice between a 500-calorie dessert and a 200-calorie dessert and you have to log it later, you'll probably pick the 200-calorie one, so you can hit your daily goal. On the other hand, if you've exercised a lot that day and haven't eaten much, maybe you CAN indulge in that 500-calorie dessert. It's all about crunching the numbers. Of course, you can eat more if you make healthier choices.

Okay, that was WAY more than one piece of advice. Sorry about my long-windedness. Have fun with it and stay out of trouble.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
