Did You Use Heat Or Ice Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

I have had some people say they used a heating pad after surgery and another tell me she had an ice pack on her stomach for a few days after.

What worked for you?

I am being banded on Wed!!!!!

I used both! Ice on my incisions and heat on my back, where I felt the air pain. I also went back to work on post-op day 3 so I think I had more incision pain than if I were to stay home and relax. I would ice as soon as I got home.

I don't go back to work until August (teacher) so I hope I won't be resting too much! A few days and then need to get moving again.

For my port replacement I used a bag of frozen peas and it helped immensely!

I used a heating pad over my tummy when I went to sleep at night. Definitely made my incisions feel a little better.

I used an ice pack on the port incision, where I had the most pain, from the time I was in PACU. I think that helped more than the pain meds. I used it on and off for a few days.

A note of caution to all- Ice or Heat, only supposed to be 20-30 minutes on and 20-30 off. Do not leave it on continuously or you could burn yourself or get frostbite.

I used a heating pad on my shoulders and neck. The gas pain was TERRIBLE. Probably could have used it on my tummy, but didn't hurt enough to need it.

I used ice because heat made me feel horrible. I didn't even want a blanket on me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
