Two Weeks Post-Op - Questions!

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 4/24 and so far I'm feeling great. I lost about 22 pounds in the first week and have stayed within a pound of that but haven't lost any more.

I start mushies today... I tend to over analyze so I need some opinions. What are mushies to you? To me pretty much anything could be misjudged of you chew it enough, though I'm sure that's not what my surgeon had in mind lol.

Also, I used to be a big pop drinker, obviously I've given that up. Does anyone have any suggestions for tasty low-calorie non-carbonated beverages? I drink a lot of Water but it would be nice to have some variety. I tried some 'diet' fruit juice and it was terrible! Any help would be appreciated!

I used to love Crystal Lite and diet iced tea, but for some reason both taste weird to me since the band... My favorite post-band is Powerade Zero. Tastes like a Gatorade.

Mushies can be anything if you puree it. (never pureed a thing - icky) I lived off cottage cheese and yogurt. Scrambled eggs is another thing my dr. told me but I could not and still can not keep them down. Soups are good, mashed up veggies, like carrots.

I just posted this somewhere else. I am a Water drinker, that is pretty much the only thing I drink however I do like crystal light. slice up some fruit and add to it, oranges, lemon, lime, pineapple. mmmmmm it's really good in the hot summertime!

Nice beginning weight loss! Keep up the good work!

I didn't think of it when I was on mushies, but since realized refried Beans count, if you like those. I did a lot of cottage cheese and apple sauce. Continue with some protien shakes as a supplement to get more nutrition and protien. Congrats on the begining of your journey- you are off to a great start!

Congrats. For mushies, I used scrambled eggs, tuna or chicken salad mixed up very well in a food processor, mashed potatoes, and the aforementioned items. As for drinks, I buy several of the Hawaiian Punch sugar-free, single-serve mixes. Some have no carbs, some have only 1 or 2 carbs per serving. I drink tea sweetened w/splenda sometimes too.

for mushies I did ricotta, Tomato sauce, and cheese baked. Lots of Soups. I still am a big Soup eater. Just watch the sodium on the canned kinds or make your own. Greek yogurts. Watch the sugars on the flavored one though. I use the sugar free syrups and add them to plain yogurt. YUM!!

I have a hardtime with Water so I do Decaf crystal lite iced tea and add lemons. Or just regular decaf tea or decaf coffee.

Good Luck!

My doc said to consider the "mushies" as anything you can smash with a fork, but she wants me to stay away from carbs like mashed potatoes. I've been having cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs (which I normally don't like) but I cook a little mexican chorizo and add to my eggs - yummy!, tuna/chicken, and salmon. I made some yummy salmon in the oven and it was easy. I don't normally like it much but used some lemon and light butter spray...it was pretty good. I found some at Walmart in the fish section, there have bags of 4 frozen salmon fillets for only about 5 dollars, which isn't too bad. My mushie stage is only a week, so I don't have to do it too long.

I really like to use Mio in Water. It's drops you squeeze into your Water for flavor - like Crystal Light - but liquid. My fav is the berry pomegranate but they have lots of flavors. I'm not a huge water drinker either, and it really helps me to get my water in.

I got my lap band April 24 th saw doc today staples removed. I've been on muchie diet last few days Doc said no to go back to purée even tho I'm not having any problem I have only lost 18 lbs which I'm disappointed about. Doc say that purée diet and more Protein drinks and 600 - 800 cal dAy will help my wieght loss. . Next appointment is 2 mo down the road as for fills they try not to have to give them. And they said I have to have two mths of food records next time or they won't even think about giving me a fill . That if I don't have or forget to bring my food records that they may even refuse to see me. Man! I feel hungry all the time . My stomach growls a lot. I was told more liq will feel me up. So pretty much guess I need to try harder to control my hunger. I thought the band was supose to help with the hunger pains ? I feel like the same as before I had it put in. :(

Wow hookiluv! 18 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks is great! I hate to say this but your doctor sounds mean! My doc never asks for food records. I just fill out a sheet when I go in as to the kinds of food I've been eating. As for the feeling hungry...I did too. Someone on this forum explained to me that even though the top part of your stomach may be full, the bottom part of your stomach has not yet adjust to the change of eating habits and still "feels hungry" until the food moves from the upper to the lower part of your stomach. It didn't take long after that for me to stop feeling that way. Now if "its hungry"...I know its true hunger. Plus your body is still healing from the surgery and that will affect a lot of things. God bless!

Thank you, yeh I was kind of thinking the doctor was being alittle mean, my normal doctor ref . Me for gastric bypass and sac at the time in calif. was the closes place where I could get one. I went thur a whole year if jumping thur hoops and testing , the a week and a half before my surgery , the doctor in formed me that he decided that he didn't want me to have the gastric bypass and that I could have the lap band. Believe me I was so upset , felt like he took my only hope away. I asked him why and he just would say mumble mumble that he decided that it was for the best and something about that after the operation people go thur a depression stage and because I'm manac depressed , bipolar and have pts. That I would Probaly get way to depress , and wouldn't be able to handle the depression, even the my phyic doc. Wrote two letter sAying that the operation would benefit me more then do harm, Nd yes I take AntidepressNts , Nd I have reg doc appointments with my shrink . I was wondering sense this one doc decided that he didn't think I could handle the depression stage. And refused to give me the gastric bypass, and now sense I have a lap bAnd in me. Does that mean that I can't go to another doctor nd check into getting the gastric bypass? That this is final because of one doctor? I really feel I would benefit from the bypass more. I'm trying to give the band my best I can, but it very discouraging when the doctor tells me that the growling and hunger pains are all in my head,, and he feels like I'm not trying hard enough . He said he doesn't like to give fills and I'll be lucky if I get even one fill. I wished I did go somewhere else , sense this doctor refuse my bypass does that mean that's it,? That it over? There will be no doc that would want to operate on me now or what? I just want to make sure if this doesn't work that I still have the options of going to Another doctor and removing the band only if it doesn't work and get the bypass.? I praying the band helps me, please lord? Just cause one doc thinks I won't be able to deal with depression , even tho my shrink told him diff. Does that mean all other doctors are going to feel that way? Is there certain phyic rules they have to go by?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
