No, in fact my surgeon specifically warns against it. He says if the band is in the proper placement it will suppress the appetite and there is no reason for it. He said if you need drugs to suppress appetite then either you need more saline in your band or it's not in the right place.

Wow, I thought I was the only one, Yes My Dr told me a couple of weeks ago, that he will like for me to start on Phentermine,!!!

Like hello what was the whole point of me getting the lapband then

I got banded in June of 2011, I have never been in the Green Zone, I am Either on Yellow or Red

I have had a total of 15 fills !!! Yes 15

2 of them have been Unfill's, because I couldn't even pass my own saliva

I have lost a total of 20 pounds, However that is not a sucses to me because 15 of them 20 I lost in 2 weeks because I was so tight I couldnt even keep liquids down,

"But get this he tells me well you have lost 20 pounds" Like yes I have because I could'nt eat for 2 weeks, I am so tired of this crap!!

Every time I get a fill, I dont feel hungry but only for 1 week after the week the hunger comes back !!

It is so Irritating,

I have the 14 cc band, and I now have 10 cc, I was at 10.75 last week but was too tight!

What is the reason your Dr whants to put you on Phentermine?

Meredith, you most definately should say what your thinking.

Obviously I'm not the first one to hear of a doctor talking about or prescribing Phentermine in addition to the band. Also, we must realize that all doctors are different although the band is supposed to work the same for most.

I got banded in Mexico in 2010 by a highly respected doctor, but didn't choose to go back for fills due to safety, then a year passed and I discovered Fill Centers USA, got one fill and they closed down. So, I'm sitting in limbo and contemplated going to Mexico, which my husband wasn't thrilled about. We relocated to Washington six weeks ago, and I started researching Lap Band doctors, and found Dr. Ross Fox. Google him, he is in Auburn, Washinton, and has recieved the highest honors in Weight Management, obesity, lap band, and all. He has recieved more awards, and is admired by many, more than any I've ever read in any location. On one of his walls, Phentermine is mentioned on a sign, so when I seen him for my second fill since May 2010, I asked if he prescribes that to some band patients, and he said yes.

Some people consider the band the easy way out, and I'm sure that also applies to Phentermine. I asked him about alot of things, Water pills, types of Vitamins, fish oil, effects on the band when using diabetic drugs. I like him alot. Simple as that!

My original thoughts were expletives, and that would get me thrown off. I like it here, and would like to hang out with you guys awhile. What I will say is... I have never heard of adding ampehetamine therapy along with banding. If I asked my surgeon about that....expletives!

:) Well, I guess we all have feelings about everything. Our right! :) Funny thing, my MIL is in clinical trials for Allergan and the lapband and other products. My FIL was banded before 2 years before he realized the band wasn't for him, he's got a huge sweet tooth and is a big drinker. So he got the bypass, and has kept his weight off and looks fantastic. He is healthier just by his huge weightloss, although he has some other health issues that the band can't assist with.

Best of luck to everyone.

I lived on phentermine for three yrs before ever looking into weight loss surgery ..it is bad for you it causes heart valve problems. I went to a heart Doc. a couple of mths ago and had a stress test and two other tests to make sure I didn't do damage , thank goodness im ok, my heart Doc said it is the worst thing to take.

Phoebster,

Thank goodness for your good news. Is it possible that your referring to phen-fen, of which Phentermine was half of that duo? I researched this, seen lawsuits, heart problems and everything in between, as of now Phentermine is only available by prescription, and is okay to take, according to what I've read.

Either way, asking questions to our practicing doctors whom are supposed to be looking out for our best interest is key!

Ive taken it before. But I thought when I was having that crushing chest pain while working in the CCU and my PATIENT was trying to see if I was ok...that was my omen to stop. No damage that I know of.

I am in the same boat. Frustrated that my fills.are not yeilding results. I had my surgery in October and have only lost 24 lbs! have a 10 cc band.filled to 7. I had it unfilled once because I could not eat Protein, meats. Doc said I needed to eat more solid Proteins and I would feel full and lose weight. I have had 5 fills total! I tell the doc am still hungry and appear to always been in yellow....slow weight with hunger in between meals, but she insists the band is workin and I need to do more on my end. I started out at 224! Figured I would be at least 40 lbs down by now. My partner got duodenal switch two Weeks ago and already lost 30 lbs! Feel like I should have come that route.

It's a weight loss surgery where your intestine is cut and your stomach as well. results in smaller stomach pouch and you really can't absorb nutrients. Have to take multiple Vitamins for the rest of your life. I personally wouldn't do it because of all the aftercare involved, and it just doesn't seem healthy overall..but the weight loss is so fast.

So is it like bypass? Somewhere here I described my FIL's efforts at the band for 2 years. Nothing helped him, so finally he got the bypass, has maintained his weight wonderfully and looks great.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
