Members Being Banded In March 06

Recommended Posts

I've found that the food once chewed to death no longer tastes that great. I love seafood and Thai food but once I chewed the shrimp, scallops, and other stuff...even the curry could not overpower the bitter taste. I also am crazy for chocolate. I bought my Protein Shake in chocolate so that is no longer a chore but a treat.

To update y'all, I went to the doc today and found I had lost 2 pounds since my first fill, so I got filled up again. I'm now at 2.3cc in a 4 cc band. My total weight loss is 29 pounds...hope the second fill helps the weight drop faster. I was really testing my band...I ate pizza! Two slices. WTF? I'm glad I got the second fill, but I hate being back to liquids. My doc requires Clear Liquids for two days (and the day of the fill doesn't count as one), two days full liquids, two days puree and then chew chew chew.

I'm here for an update! I was banded on March 7. I lost 10 kg (22 pounds) during the liquids/soft food phase and just 2 kg (4.5 pounds) since I started solids. I had my first fill in April (5 cc in a 10 cc band), and it was painful!! I had some restriction for a few days and then nothing. I had a second fill 2 weeks ago (7 cc total). I finally have restriction!! It took 4-5 days to kick in but the band works!!!!! My biggest issue is head hunger, & that in the last month I have discovered every possible way to cheat. I'm meeting a psychologist next week, she's part of my doctor's team & we'll talk about these issues & I hope it helps.

I was banded around march 8. I've lost approx. 30 lbs. since then. Live in dallas (plano to be exact) and Dr. Jayaseelan did the surgery. He is one of few who does the surgery on teens and kids. I'm probably one of the youngest (11) but had my 2nd fill 1 week ago.

Nan,

You give me hope that restriction is possible. LOL. I had my first fill 2 weeks ago today and it didn't do a thing. I am scheduled for the second one on July 6 and am trying not to move the date up. I figure if I can lose with no restriction and get myself psyched into eating right, when I DO get restriction, I'll be a real player.

Hey March buddies!! :clap2:

I have not checked in lately. But, I had my 1st fill 4 weeks ago. It really did nothing. I just got my 2nd fill today. So now I have 1.5cc in my 4 cc band. I hope this gives me a little restriction.

Weight loss has been SLOW with no restriction. But it has been steady about 1 pound a week for the last month or so.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and we all are waiting for that restriction..It's coming :clap2: :clap2: I can't wait. That will be sweet to really see the scale move.

Hi March Bandsters! I was banded 3-28-06. I had 1 fill at 5 weeks post-op and I go back to the Dr. on June 13th. I think I've lost about 24 pounds but my scale is friendlier than the Dr. I have noticed the last couple of weeks that I have felt hungrier and I haven't noticed restriction as much. Then all of a sudden I trouble getting anything down. I noticed I'm not eating as slow as I did at first and I'm not chewing as long, laying down my fork etc. It makes me so mad when I finally remember everything I'm doing wrong. I've been being too adventurous with what I am eating too. Well, I haven't gained any weight back but it sure is slow to come off. Go turtles!

Hi guys,

I am doing well but am a bit confused on this restriction thing. I have had 2 fills and am at 2.7 ccs in my 4cc band. Up until yesterday I felt like I could be at my sweet spot and I felt like my restriction was perfect. Today however I feel completely wide open. WTH??? :) Has anybody experienced this......where their fill just suddenly "evaporates" all of the sudden? I am hoping it is due to my TOM starting this morning but from what i have heard most people get tighter during this time. Maybe it is just my hormones and afterwards I will gain restriction again. I sure hope so...If not I guess I will schedule my 3rd fill for sometime in July. Congrats to all March bandsters on their weight loss!!!

I agree, if you are losing slowly, but still losing be happy!!!

I had my first fill May 6, 1.8 in a 4 cc. band. Have never been able to tolerate solids and haven't been able to eat more than ice chips and one slim-fast shake a day for the last three days. This means no bites at bbq's, no dates for dinner, nothing!! Everything I take in comes right back up. Don't worry, I'm getting some fill taken out next Tuesday but will drive eight hours each way for a "local" fill doctor. :clap2:

I've been losing five to seven lbs. a week. I am really starting to feel the effects, exhausted!! Can't wait until I can have a bite of fish or an egg or a spoonful of yogurt!!! :hungry: :hungry: :hungry: :hungry: :hungry:

I love my band, this is not a complaint by any means. I should have made arrangements to have the fill loosened sooner, but I waited for my period to start, then for it to end, then for finals to be over, then for an appointment, blah, blah, blah.:faint:

Long story short, I think it's would be much better to be slightly underfilled than take any risk of being overfilled.

Being too tight definately causes lots of problems. I went to the ER for throwing up blood 2 weeks ago. I couldn't even get Water down for about 3 days. NO FUN!

But I think I've healed, I got my fill back (only 1.5cc instead of 2.0cc in a 4.0cc band) and it seems to be a great level of restriction!! I hope I keep losing weight at this level because we just set a wedding date of January 2nd and I would really like to be close to goal by then!!

Anywhoo. Hope everyone else is doing great!

So, I just had my first PB yesterday :o.My fault, I was eating too fast. I am glad it happened in a way, it was like a proof the band is actually there. Does this make any sense? Not that I want it happening again :sick

My first fill on May 25th did nothing so I'm going back today for fill number two and keeping my fingers crossed that this one FINALLY produces restriction. The first fill was with my surgeon's partner but the one this AM is with the surgeon who did the banding so we'll see what happens. Everyone is doing great... congratulations to you all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
