Tere- theres no shame in your weight, we all start somewhere. I was not far behind you at my heaviest. One thing my doc told me that sunk in was that the lapband is just a tool to help you lose weight. It won't do the work for you and there are definitely ways to cheat it for example, drinking high calorie beverages or eating ice cream which will slide right through your band. I'm only 5 days post op and I'm finding it difficult to stay on the post op diet because I want to eat everything and feel like I can since my band doesn't get filled for a few more weeks. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.

DaisyChains- my incisions just itch really bad. If you're having pain I would definitely call your doc.

So I'm two weeks post op and have had no issues except my port area is really bugging me. I sat for two hours at a movie and could barely focus because the tshirt over my tummy felt like sandpaper. When I sit it hurts.. Like a burning feeling.. Not the big incision but the skin around it. Has anyone else gone through this?? I am gonna call in tomorrow. Also my saliva is still very thick even though I am not overrating. Wth?

Yep, I get that burning sensation sometimes near the port area but not on the incision. I can relate!

Hi everybody I'm scheduled for surgery on Friday may 25th!! Im super exited but nervous at the same time!! Im 27 yrs old and I weigh 347lbs! Ouch.. I've never said my weight' date=' I'm actually very embarrassed about it!! I don't know if its normal but I'm afraid of failing at this!! I have very little will power but for some reason I feel I'm ready for this! I researched the Lapband and other weight loss surgeries for over 2 years!! But the fear is still there!! I hope it's normal!!

Day 7 post op. Surgeon visit tomorrow. I'm so afraid to step on that scale. I don't want to get discouraged if the scale goes up over swelling.

How did you all do at your post op visit? Did you go up or down on your weight?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same reaction but I lost weight , 15 lbs! My post op visit went really well. I told my dr how hungry I was and he asked why didn't I eat something lol.

I think that it's only natural that we are scared of being bloated because of the surgery. You will do well I'm sure!!

I have been having the same feeling with the burning under the skin. I thought maybe it was just gas around my port. It is very bothersome though. I'm back at work now and i'm a receptionist and boy does it hurt sometimes. I'm either all slouched down in my chair or sitting straight up on the very edge to keep it from bothering me. I'm also still very bloated and have to undo my pants...LOL! Luckily I work with an older crowd so we all have our issues and no one even pays attention.

I was the same way but now that burning is gone and it doesn't bother me to sit at my desk anymore.

Ok I'm so glad it's not just me. I was starting to worry. Driving and sitting down to eat are pretty uncomfortable. :/ called the Dr last night so I'm just waiting to hear back.

Hello All,

I went for my follow up visit yesterday, knowing I was not going to see my doc, as he is out of the country on a speaking engagement. I, too, am still bloated and stomach swollen. I have not been taking Gas-X, but the staff says that helps alot. We will see. I was down 3lbs since surgery. My next appt is 6/12 with my surgeon, when I will get my first fill. I did have the plication, so I hope that I continue to not be very hungry, if at all. Mostly in the morning when I wake up.

All in all, doing pretty good. My port site is tender, all the others are healing really well. I will go back to work after Memorial Day on May 29th.

Best wishes to you all !

Nita

Well, I don't go for an official doctor's follow up unitl 2 weeks post-op, but I still go to Weight Watchers and at 1 week post op I had lost 2.6 lbs. I was ok with that.

May bandsters - How much time (if any) did you take off work? I'm getting banded on 5/30, which is next Wednesday (yikes!), and I'm considering going back to work on the Monday after. I mainly sit at a desk - minimal walking.

I was banded on a Monday and went back to a desk job on Thursday and I was fine.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
