I'm Too Out Of Shape To Exercise

Recommended Posts

This is so hard for me. I will continue, but I have a difficult journey ahead of me.

I got on the treadmill and could only do 3.25 minutes at 1.4 mph.

Is anyone else as out of shape as I am? I am so deflated. Just I just have to keep doing it until I get better.

I'm about as out of shape as they come. Continue what you are doing. You will get farther and better as you loose weight and build endurance.

Each day you will go a little bit farther....baby steps! You gotta start somewhere, right?

I agree! Baby Steps! I am starting my workout regimine with my husband today, surgery is next Thursday...I can barely walk up two flights of stairs without stopping...but, I know eventually, it will get better! Do not be discouraged!

Be sure to check with your Dr first.

I was so out of shape I could not walk up the stairs without loosing my breath. Turned out it was my heart.

I was a walking time bomb and didn't even know it!

Now I feel 20 years younger.

Omg I know! I don't think you can know how difficult it is (unless you've experienced it) to move around a whole extra person! It's hard enough todo normal everyday stuff much less exercise!

Thanks for the words of encouragement from the long term bandsters. I have started at 5 minutes on the treadmill but it is murdering me!

Ah, that is a good point. Never thought it could be anything but my weight. As hard as it is for me, it should be checked out. I mean it is almost too hard. Thanks!</div>

The first time I got on my spin bike I rode really slowly for 5 mins and then when I got off I thought I was going to die. I actually said to my then-husband (who was a personal trainer when he was younger) that I thought I was having a heart attack. And he told me, just keep going, fitness is built, you're not born with it.

By the end of 8 months, I was riding 40kms (about 25 miles) 3 times a week.

Keep at it. You put in the work, and you will be rewarded.

As always good advice B-52. Never thought it was anything else but my weight.

What does your name mean, if you don't mind. My dad flew B-52's.

I know. I feel I should lose some weight before I start exercising, but I know that is faulty thinking. That's how hard it is.

All you can do is what you can do. DO get the OK by your doctor, of course. But even if it is just moving your arms and legs in your chair, it is better than nothing. 5 minutes walking is awesome! It doesn't have to be structured. Park a little farther away. Walk half way down your block when you check your mail.

Get a couple of weights to lift while you watch TV. Any effort is worth it.

The way I figure it, you have to be out of shape before you can get in shape, right? Start small and work your way up, and before you know it you'll be doing things you never thought you could!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
