How Is Weight Loss For Those Over 350 Lbs Or Bmi Over 50

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just joined today. I had my consult last week. Now have to meet with nutritionist and psych. I want to lose 20 lbs before surgery. My surgeon is Dr. Larson in Lake Worth, Florida. He doesn't require weight loss, but says it is easier on your lungs if you do. I will try.

I want to know if you lose your appetite, and how fast larger people lose weight.

Also does anyone prefer one band over another: Realize or lap band?

How is energy level after surgery?

Thank you,

Louisa

Good luck on your journey. My surgery date is 4/2 but I started my prep last may. I didn't loose much weight but since my Pre op I have 14 pounds. I'm looking forward to my new life.

Hey my band date was 3-1-12. I did a two week pre-op all liquid. I lost my appetite the first week after surgery with the swelling and gas and all that fun stuff. Just didn't feel like eating so I didn't. I did make sure to get all my Water in. I am three weeks out and have lost 26 lbs according to my dr scales. So far it hasn't been hard. I started at 298. Got my first fill yesterday so I'm not sure how that's gonna work so far except that if I eat much (yesterday was all liquid so that's just today) I feel that fullness in my chest everyone talks about so I stop right away (that's about two chicken strips). Best thing was I ate lunch at 12:30 and wasn't hungry again for four hours!

I started at 260 and am to whatever my ticker says now over about a month. I did a low calorie diet for two weeks, then a pseudo liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery (most days was two Protein Shakes, one Protein Bar, and two yogurts). I did have three normal meals during my pseudo liquid, but maintained a diet mentality so did not pig out like I would have in the past.

since surgery on the 20th, I have done pureed Soups, sugar free pudding, Protein shakes, and yogurts. Tonight I had some soft noodles because I flew into another state for a work conference and there weren't any soups at the buffet dinner.< /p>

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
