anything I should know?

depending on your level of restriction, you may feel tighter for a few days after the flight, so I tend to carry some Optifast (or whatever shakes you use) on the plane just in case. If you do feel tight, nurse your band with liquids for a few days until you are feeling back to normal. It doesn't always happen for me, but it has on occasion, mainly when I was in the green zone.

I will also be flying the week after banding, so this is a good topic. The NP assured me that I wouldn't be beeping through TSA security, so that's good.

Can I carry Protein Shakes in a carry on?

No liquids through security....You can only take the liquids you brought on the other side of security on the plane

I've been through the full body scan with no trouble. Travel almost always cause me to tighten up, even car travel. I think it is the stress. You can carry on shake powder, but if it is in a large tub, declare it before it goes through the x-ray. It reads like a liquid.

I had 16 ounce container of electrolyte powder with me that threw them for a loop. When I flew back I pulled it out of my carry-on. The TSA supervisor said, "thanks for taking this out! You made my job so much easier, and kept the line moving!"

I also bring an empty water bottle in my carry-on that I can fill once through security. Much cheaper than buying Water in the gift shop.

I'm flying on Thursday and have been reading up on what can and can't be brought through security. But maybe it's different in Canada because I can bring unopened liquids of less than 100ml through security in my carry on (in the checked baggage, bring whatever and it's okay). I'm also grateful I had a de-fill yesterday because I would hate to be super tight when flying. Now I'll just be tight! Although my nurse said it would loosen up by the next day, so she said not to attempt to eat anything I am iffy about now, while on the plane.

US can bring 3.4 oz (100ml) containers through in one clear 1-quart sized baggie. But that is not much, if you are talking about a shake. it isn't even half a cup. I suppose you can put a couple containers in one baggie.

You can also bring medically necessary liquids. You have to declare it before sending it down the conveyor. I don't know if you would need a note for a Protein Shake or if they would accept you saying you cannot eat solids due to gastric surgery.

This is interesting. I'm flying in April and all my docs have said there won't be any change. But it's a good thought about a Protein Shake for the flight. I could bring a packet of powder. I don't know if they serve skim milk but they must, right?

I'm also excited because now I'll fit comfortable in one seat. (I have bought two in the past for comfort and not to annoy the person sitting next to me. But not this time!) And no seat belt extension! So I have seats in bulk head. Ahhhh. Leg room!

Hahaha, I didn't realize how small that was!

You can advise the airline in advance that you have special dietary needs and ask them to get it for you. You can also purchase it after security in one of the food courts and carry it on. Bring an empty baggie and ask for some ice if it might be a while before you consume it to keep it chilled. Or the flight attendant might hold it for you in their galley area to keep it cold until you need it. No guarantee on that one though.

I am flying in June, almost one year post op to the day. I'm flying Southwest...I looked online at their beverage menu and milk is not listed. I will contact them ahead of time (thanks to someone for suggesting that! ) and find out if they do have it and if not can they get some for my specific flights. If they can't I'll just buy some in the airport terminal before I board. My first flight leaves at 6:05 am, so I'll have Breakfast shake on board the plane. Probably won't be loose enough to eat the peanuts they offer, so I'll hold onto those for later.

I'm also contacting TSA to find out if I can bring any of the pre-made shakes on board in my carry on. If so I will buy some when I'm packing, since I normally buy the powder and mix with milk.

I haven't flown in a few years, so I'm not looking forward to all the security junk but eager to go on this trip.

I fly all the time internationally and domestic and I notice NOTHING different when I fly with my band. However, the mental stress that comes from travel, may cause one's restriction to increase. Have a great flight! :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
