Hi offline.pngsha1234

Yes, I had a hiatus hernia repaired during my lapband surgery.

I don't know how large it was, but know that I walked around with it for almost 20 years, taking omeprazole all the whiIe... ::(

My recovery was uneventful....

I hope the pain you' re experiencing starts getting better soon.

Joyceann... It's kind of weird that after they fix the hernia and I realized what pain and area that came from makes me realize I had this hernia a lot longer that what they think. I've even gone to the emergency room years ago thinking it was from my chest or something.

The pain is slowly going away and has become more of a soreness than anything. but I know that it's pain from hernia repair and not so much the band.

I had my surgery 02/14/12. I feel much better knowing that others have had hernia repaired. The gas sometimes seems unbearable. Heating pad doesn't seem to help. But in the last few days it seems to not be as frequent.

Getting much better as the days go by, but can definitely tell when I over do it.

My surgery was Feb 28. I had a large hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I spent the night in the hospital since my insurance required it. I feel better than I thought I would. Stll having gas pains, but taking Gasx which seems to help. My doctor ordered a anti nausea patch for me which was placed behind one ear. He also ordered a Bracelet thing which I am supposed to wear til the battery runs out...it is supposed to also combat nausea.

I did not know about the hiatal hernia but my doctor suspected it because I had been having some pain after eating. Anyway, I am going to start my walking tomorrow!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
