New Here! Finally Started My Journey Today!

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Holly and I have finally started my journey today! I had my first surgical consult on 2/20 but it seems official today after all of my radiology tests. Today I had my chest x-ray, upper GI series, abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds! I feel like I should be done but this is only the beginning. I scheduled all of my tests rather quickly as my surgeon suggested. Do most people just get all of their consults and tests out of the way? I still have all of my consults to do, psych and pulmonary consults are at the end of the week and the rest are in the month of March. In order to obtain approval from my insurance company I need to have 6 months of appointments with my Dr. in addtion to the consults and tests so I'm hoping to have my surgery in July or August, can't wait! I'm glad I found this forum, it seems like a great place for any questions I may have along the way.

Congratulations! I would say its best to get everything out of the way as soon as you can, in case something comes up and delays your surgery.

Dr waited to schedule my eco(?) like a week before surgery and they found that my gallbladder had stones. so instead of doing surgery for lapband I had to have my gallbladder removed, set me back 2 months. I started my process in June with seminar and got approval in October.

This is a great forum I'm on here daily for now.

Welcome to the board! I go for my consult on 3/6 and hope to be banded at the end of July or beginning of August also. I have to finish the 6 month program with Tufts and during the time I am going to do all my appt's with the clinic. My plan is that I will have surgery scheduled before the 6 months is up and then they can just submit to the insurance (we will see if it goes that smooth)....Good luck!!

Welcome and congrats! I agree that I would get as much out of the way that you can. You want to have all your ducks in a row when submitting for insurance so it goes smoothly. Does your surgeons office submit everything for you? My place had a patient checklist and a patient advocate that handled everything which was nice. Congrats again!

Welcome! I also had to do the 6mo program for my insurance. I had my doctor/surgeon appt, psych, and dietician all in the same day since the surgeon is 1 1/2 hrs away from me. That was done and out of way the end of Aug. My 6 months was just up last week so I'm waiting for ins approval.I love this forum and have learned tons!! Hoope all goes well for you! Good luck!

Glad you're here! I'm also where u are in this whole process! Just waiting to get the call from the surgery center to schedule all of my lab tests, psych eval etc. Luckily, Bluegrass Bariatrics does all the testing in one day. I already know I'll have to complete the 6 months supervised diet. Hope I can be patient...which I think is one of the biggest factors in this surgery- PATIENCE! Ugh.. Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
