Banded For 2 Months, Slipped, Removed...moving Forward!

Recommended Posts

Hello Bandsters,

I was banded on December 6th, and had to have it removed on Valentine's Day due to slippage. Very disheartening, to say the least. However, I am not giving up! I need to heal from this weeks' surgery, but now I am looking into the sleeve (which is probably the route I should have taken to begin with - who knew?) My body just did not gel well with the band.

Any advice on the sleeve? The last few weeks have been very painful with eating due to the slippage, and food was always getting stuck. Do you get stuck with the sleeve? What does eating feel like? I know it's the same premise (small bites, small meals, no eating/drinking at the same time) but I'm wondering what the differences are.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

d

I don't know much about the sleeve but I am curious to now what might have made your band slip. Did your doc tell you why they thought this happened?

When I came home from surgery, I was very sick and vomited alot the first night. Then after my first fill, the vomiting started up again. My doctor said it is very rare, but the vomiting is what caused it. :(

My doc sews your band in place and he has never had a slip. I have thrown up a ton in the beginning and never had a problem...If I couldnt have a band I would look into the sleeve! Best of luck!

I was banded last year and my husband got the sleeve last October because he did not want the band maintenance or stuck sensation he'd seen me go through. We eat about the same portion sizes and he's lost over 80 lbs since October. I recommend the sleeve if the band didn't work. He does get a lot of acid refux however. Good luck!

Sleeve was not around when I was banded, but my fear of it is how new it is. There just isn't much long term data available. Not that there is much for the band either. The good thing with both of these, they can both be converted to gastric bypass if they fail.

I believe the biggest risk with a sleeve is leaks during the immediate post-op phase.

I can't answer the stuck question. Best wishes to you in your continued journey!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
