Banded This Friday And Feel Like My Body Is Fighting Something.. Help!!

Recommended Posts

I am supposed to be banded this Friday the 3nd. I woke up this morning with a mild sore throat and a bit achey. I started slamming Emergen-C packs, echinacea and zinc. I am no longer allowed to have any medicines so I can't combat with that.

I am SO worried. What if I get sick, will they postpone surgery????

I just had my EKG and labs on Friday and got the clear from my PCP to go ahead with surgery. Now I am so worried there will be a hiccup.

Yes, if you get sick they will postpone it. However, as much as you don't want to have to postpone it would be for the best. The last thing you need is to risk infection or pneumonia due to illness.

I'll keep my fingers crossed you wake up tomorrow feeling great :)

They told me to contact them asap if I got sick and that way I might be able to see my regular doctor for something to nip it in time for surgery, but to also let the surgeon know what is going on as well prior to the surgery. That way he will determine what action to take from there.

I just called the nurse at the surgeons office and left a vm. Then I called my PCP and the girl at the front desk said she would talk to the Dr and see what she recommends.

Uggg I SO don't want to be postponed :(

I think the #1 issue will be whether or not your breathing is affected by this cold or whatever it is. They won't want to anesthetize you if it is. I wouldn't want to have my surgery postponed either but it's really for the best. Good luck, and keep us posted!

I got a cold about 5 days prior to surgery, and was at my PCP for surgical clearance the day it started. He knew I did not want to postpone it, so he gave me an inhaler and an antibiotic to be safe - and he's normally pretty opposed to passing out antibiotics, which I normally agree with him on. I also called the surgeon, and said I'd be ok as long as my lungs were ok. Fortunately I did not have to find out, I was better within a couple of days!

It's not a cold. I am now seeing white pockets on my tonsils so I may have strep. Even tho my throat is only itchy and slightly scratchy. It isn't a major pain.

I am so beyond upset I may have to push my surgery.

Thanks Hannah! I SO hope I have your experience!!! I am treating myself like a baby and doctoring myself. I really hope I didn't come this far for a big obstacle.

If its strep, get on antibiotics tomorrow morning. You can still be ready for surgery Friday.

So you CAN be on antibiotics and go into surgery? That won't affect anything like internal bleeding, etc?

I thought they routinely give you antibiotics when you go into surgery to prevent infection. I know I've had them every time I went in for surgery - gallbladder, hysterectomy, and bunions on both feet as well as my lap band surgery

Thanks so much! I will ask them tomorrow. I am crossing my fingers, eyes and toes that everything goes as planned.

I was given Antibiotics through an IV after my surgery. Just make sure you let them know about this prior to surgery and let them decide what is best for you. You don't want to be over medicated by mistake.

They're probably going to put an antibiotic in your IV anyway. Antibiotics shouldn't affect internal bleeding. It's things like aspirin that increase bleeding.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
