I am post op 3 weeks but have a question. I have made the choice to go no soda and am currently on my fourth week off of it. I am wondering though about a friend who is fixing to have surgery. She is a soda addict and is wondering if it is possible to have a small glass of soda after lapband???

I have been banded for a year now. I am not nor was I a "soda addict", but I do enjoy it, especially with certain foods. I have had soda since the band and nothing has happened. Now, it's only small sips and not very often, but I was okay.

I was told to avoid carbonated beverages because it fills the stomach with gas and can stretch the new pouch. I used to have a 12 oz bottle or two a day and I quit cold. I am glad I did because I feel loads better not having the false high of the soda. My head hurt like all get out the first 3 days but after I got over it I felt great.

Thanks! I myself gave it up and only miss it when I'm shopping or eatting something fastfood. My problem with soda was always that it made me crave sweets and I do not want that now!!!

It made me crave sweets and/or made me feel hungrier. If I go through a drive up I now get unsweetened ice tea and tell them to keep the straw.

I'm a month out now. And was a huge soda addict. I one in my hands almost alwats. I stopped just prior to surgery and did have any craving until now. I am fighting through it since I don't want to go back to it. They are like quiting smoking if I start again I may not beable to cotrol it. I drank diet soda buy they do cause you to crave food. I have had a ginger ale on ice. My Dr said I could have one just on ice allowing bubbles to exscape. Not everyday.

I totally gave up soda. I do miss it very much though. My surgeon said if I was to have soda to just let it sit for about 5 mins after you pour/open it to let some of the bubbles pass. I just skip it. Don't want to start that habit back up.

I was a 3-4 a day Mountain Dew addict before banding. I have had soda maybe 3 times in the past 7 months, nothing really happened, but I realized how sweet it was and is not for me anymore!

Ive ovly been banded for almost 4 months but i have been soda free for a year. Yes the carbination stretches out the pouch. Making us able to eat more defeatimg the purpose of the band ;-)

I've been banded since 09 and avoided carbonation for over a year. I can now enjoy a soda every now and then. Someone was right when they said let it fizz out a little. I like it really cold so putting a can on ice helps.

I used to love drinking pepsi max, coke, lift and a bunch of other soft drinks (soda). My surgeon didnt tell me that I couldnt have it after the surgery. When I did eventually have a drink, it just sat at the top of my band and bubbled and fizzed and slowly came back up. It was so gross. I thought it was because I was still healing but I have since learned that soft drink can no longer be a part of my diet. And like others that have replied, I don't crave it anymore. I drink more Water now than I did before, I may have a glass of juice if I need something sweet, and I feel so healthy just by eliminating that...and McDonalds. Also, soft drink has so much sugar and chemicals in it, I think ditching it all together is the better option.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
