Newbie - Banded 1/21/12

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I just got my lap band on Friday, 1/21/12. I had the SILS procedure and stayed overnight in hospital. Looking forward to discussing lots of things on this site with everyone. I'm having a hard time with the clear liquid diet as the clear Isopure Protein Drinks are a bit sweet. I've been cutting them with Water so it's not too sweet. I just know that this is the really hard part and hopefully each week will get better once I can have more and more. Saturday I can start with Protein Shakes and full liquid, yay! :)

I had hard time with over sweet also. I cut special k powders down with Water. I couldn't tolerate powder Protein Drinks at first. Clear Liquids under my Dr included Protein drinks so I drank pre package kind.

Congratulations! This is the best support site, I am so glad I found it! I am working through the same things banded on 1/19. Did you have the gas pains post-op. Mine still aren't gone yet!

I get the Protein powders starting Sat. for week 2. I had them before surgery and loved them with some Peanut Butter blended in, I hope I can tolerate them now. I had researched this and kind of knew it, but NOTHING but Water tastes good to me right now. The gas is still here journey4me. The gas pain from the lap surgery settled in my left shoulder blade and is painful, today it's in my left side of my neck and chest. I can't wait for that to go away. I have no pain from the incision or anything, just gas. My stomach rumbles non-stop. I've also had diarrhea today but I think that's from overdoing it on the Liquid Protein yesterday. My dr. recommends 50 g per day, yesterday I did close to 80. Today I did only 50 so we will see what tomorrow brings. I called the nurse and she said not to worry yet. I'm doing good with Fluid according to her. I know this will probably be my toughest week since it's the beginning. I am really looking forward to the Protein Shakes and hope I can tolerate them rather than this Isopure or bullets, blech!

I had lap-band surgery on January 21. I had my surgery in Mexico. I am back in the states now and feeling pretty good, especially considering a 5 hour flight. I am surprised how hungry I feel. I expected the clear liquids to be more filling.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
