Here I go again, asking a question on getting stuck. I just cant get passed this and I KNOW if I cant, it will be the reason I dont follow thru with the surgery. I realize that not getting stuck is pretty much in our hands. It's how and what we eat that will cause it. Still, I'd like to know, how many times per week or month would you say you get stuck? Is it a common occurance that you just comes with the band or is it a "do it one time and you'll never do it again" sort of thing? Thank you.

I can only share my experience coz lots of people get stuck just once and they learn how not to do it again, but I got stuck quite a lot as I approached restriction. But with each episode, I learnt a little more about what I had to do to not have it happen.

Having said that I got stuck a couple of nights ago after not being stuck for over 1/2 a year because my band felt tight and I ate rice that wasn't properly cooked, and I ate it fast because I was talking to someone and not paying attention. Because I hadn't been stuck in ages, I just assumed I'd be ok. But I obviously wasn't!

So if you make mistakes like that, it can happen.

I was banded on August 31 2011. I have had 3 fills with a total of 6 mls in a 10 ml band. I have been lucky and I have not had any stuck issues.

Sometimes, experienceing getting stuck, then fearing geeting stuck again is a good detterrent to not overeat anymote.....thus helping you with your weight loss.

For instance, I have in the past got stuck trying to eat French Fries. So now, I have this menatal block about eating french fries. I just do not ever consider eating then anymore. It is not something I have to work at or try hard not to do, I simply ignore them and move on.

Is that such a bad thing? There are many foods like that for me, and the overwhelming majority of them are things not all that good for me in the first place.

Just about anything breaded and fried comes to mind right away. My dr.(s) have been harping on me to lay off the greasy fried foods!!

Now I CAN'T eat them.

I've only been banded a couple of months, have 10.3ccs in an 11cc band and I haven't been stuck- but it's sort of like B-52 said- I have a fear of it happening, so I'm really careful.

I get stuck now and again, and it is always because I wasn't Paying attention and ate too fast or did not chew enough. But I think the word stuck is kind of deceptive. With me, if it wont go down, it comes right back up. Everyone is different, I have a problem with the bread and fried foods especially breaded fried foods. I am diabetic, so I already avoided the rice and Pasta so I haven't even tried those things since being banded. I would not let the fear of getting stuck deter you from considering the band.

I understand your concerns over what sounds like something that can cause u to fear it, getting stuck for me happens around 1 x per month and normally its my fault. What you should be fearing/worried about is being overweight and all the life threatening problems that can cause. Getting stuck, if at all, is a small problem in comparison and well worth the trade off :)

I have had that happen and it does suck!!! I ll be 3 years with my band feb 2.

I got stuck-stuck once (if you mean, complete with sliming and upchucking). It was not-well chewed raw broccoli.

About twice a week I swallow and feel something move down "slow". I don't call that stuck-- it's just a sign that either I didn't chew well enough OR what I'm eating (almost always bread) is just not going to work and I need to ditch it. It is not unpleasant or noticeable to anyone but me.

Depends on how tight I am..

If I can eat normal food, and I chew and take my time ,maybe 1 x every 2-3 months.

If I am tighter, and I press my luck "test my band" to see what I can tolerate.

I can get stuck more frequently. 1 x every couple of weeks.

Reardless the stuck episodes are do to my own fault..

I myself have never gotten stuck, or thrown up THANK GOD....i was banded 9/14

I have gotten stuck many times (i guess i'm a slow learner) but at first it was very painful and a feeling of panic and then later I was uncomfortable and could just yak it up easily. I have learned how not to do that any more but it took a while,

I have been banded for over a year and to be honest it isn't that horrible of a thing, mainly because you know you did and it should be over soon. The worst stuck I ever was, was when I was on a train in Chicago and I was alimony and there was nothing I could do but try to keep it down. Mine usually passes in 20 minutes but then I try to stick to liquids the rest of the day.

It's really not as bad as you think it is. I think it will happen as long as I have my band. Most days are good, but sometimes I do get a tight in the chest feeling. I just hold my breath, slow it down, and take small bites and chew well. This probably happens once a month. I don't actually slime and "throw up" every month. That rarely happens. Everyone has their own hang ups. I know this was one thing I was scared of because I HATE throwing up, but it doesn't actually feel like that. I was also worried about the scars, not losing the weight, dying (which clearly didn't happen), all kinds of complications...I would say that this is pretty small compared to other things that could go wrong.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
