Hello From Austin, Texas!

Recommended Posts

Hello! My name is Gerry Juarez. I am 30 years old and just got approved for Lap Band Surgery at the end of this month. My wife and I started this journey about six months ago through True Results here in Austin. She just got her band about 10 days ago and is doing well getting adjusted to life with the band. I am very excited to have this procedure, I feel like I can get a life back that I lost several years ago. I wasn't always obese, I served for four years in the Marine Corps from 2001-2005. Then I came home and took a desk job, and it seems every year since then I've just grown more and more sedentary. Now that I'm 30, with an amazing wife and two great sons, I feel like this is my opportunity to get out from under the unhealthy lifestyle I've been leading. I look foward to meeting people here, to learning about life with the band and how to make it work for you, and more importantly, hear the success stories from people just like me who are taking steps to getting their health back.

Congrats to you both. It's great! I got my band 22 Dec. In Houston. It's great that you both got it you can split meals and not waist as much food as I do. Lol good luck to you both! And welcome to bandland!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
