Sleeve Vs Lapband ? Help

Recommended Posts

Fluffy, you always express your failed lapband and having no restriction, but I just read some of your blog and it said in a December post that you are now 25 BMI. so what is not working for you? Im confused.......

I also thought I read something about you popping you r Iv 4/5 times during yor VSG surgery, but I tought you hadn't done that yet???

My BMI is around that. What does one have to do with the other?

And on the 2nd thing. ....what the hell are u talking about???

Okay I work with Surgeons that do lapbands, realize band, plications, sleeves & bypass all day long & I asked them this very same question. The answer they gave me was rather simple & made alot of sense. Think of weightloss surgery as a hammer. The size of the hammer depends on how big the job is so if you only need to lose less than 100 pounds & can for the most part have some control & will power than the lapband (small hammer) is a great choice. If you are not a very disciplined type of person, lack will power & patience & need to lose more than 80-100 pounds then the sleeve (bigger hammer) or bypass (biggest hammer) is the procedure for you. Recovery time for lapband (depending on type of job you have) 4 -5 days you are back to work, sleeve (5-6 days), bypass (4 weeks). This is if you have an office job where you can sit or stand & take frequent breaks.

As with any surgery, there can be complications but those are the risks we take when having ANY type of surgery. Thats why its crucial to research the surgeon you chose. I hope this was helpful. I'm a bandster &

Thank you very much for sharing that info. Very helpful and easy to understand.

Is your friend thinking of the sleeve or the more invasive gastric bypass ?, the sleeve just removes a section of your stomach to leave u with a sleeve shaped stomach, bypass will actually re-route intestines and reduce the size of your stomach. This type of surgery is obviously a lot more invasive and complications can be more devastating. I recently saw a tv programme where the bypass patient actually died of starvation, through malabsorbtion of food.

Personally I chose the band as i feel in control still, i certainly wasnt happy to have major surgery which is not reversible.

Because of my starting weight i was an ideal candidate for bypass surgery but i just didnt feel it was right for me.

There are horror stories and failures for all types of WLS so it really is just getting all the info you can and making an informed decision that you can commit to smile.png

I am just so impressed with your choosing the band and doing so well when you had so much to lose! My friend is about 350, and is a multi-Weight Watchers failure. I was wondering if the band would still be an option vs bypass, as she also has so much to lose. Thanks for the inspiration! Hope she chooses something surgical before her weight overwhelms her to the point of giving up! Continued success to you! Amazing! Wonderful! Congrats!

Come on people! We have VERY clear rules here on LBT. You can disagree with someone's opinion but there's never ever a need for being rude or name calling, ever! Let's simmer down now please 001_smile.gif

I was referring to yor low bmi because you have obviously been.successful losing weight and I was curious how you feel the band failed you. I.know you express yor experience with the band not working and having no restriction, but it seems to have worked in some way, maybe not the way that you expected, which is unfortunate, but in sine way, looks like its working. What do.you experience as being ”no restriction”?

Also, here s the link to your blog post about vsg surgery I referenced earlier http://www.formerlyfluffy.com/lap-band-and-realize-band-do-your-research/.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
