January Surgery Bandsters Group

I survived thanksgiving thanks to the band. I felt full pretty quick so I barely touch what little I took. I did have some pumpkin pie minus the crust. Then I went to the amazing gym at the hotel and did a full hr workout!! I hope everyone is enjoying Black Friday. A good day to get new skinnier clothes at a deal!!

I survived the eating frenzy too. I was lucky because we ate our dinner at a restaurant instead of sitting at home overeating.

It was a bittersweet day though. First Thanksgiving since my much loved father in law passed away in April... Realized how much of a void his passing has left in the family. He was always one of my biggest supporters in my weight loss journey and I wish he could see me today at the lowest weight that I have been in many, many years.

I did enjoy the meal and had some pie, but got in a good swim at the hotel pool last night with my kids so hopefully i burned up a few calories.

I went to a buffet Restuarant too! Kept us away from leftover and buying one of each of our favorite huge costco pies!!

Crissylu, way to go! 95 pounds ... Gone!

Rkimom, the holidays do bring up memories of the ones we've lost, that's for sure. Also sure that your Dad still sees your progress!

Nicole, can't wait for your Monday weigh-in ... This should be good!

I have to say that the first banded Thanksgiving was a pleasant surprise. Felt full and satisfied on not that much ... Whoo-hoo! Was very controlled yesterday but tonight when I got home pulled out the leftovers (that's the meal I usually gorge out on ... After all the relatives are gone) and I piled about 2 cups of stuff on the plate thinking I wouldn't eat it all but it was so much smaller than previous year's first helpings ... Sat down, ate about 1/2 cup and thought I'm pretty full already ... And stopped! That, to me, is huge!!! Lovin my band right now!!

Ugh the family bought a box of Sees candy for the ride home. I had forgotten about that tradition. We spent the full 3 hrs passing it around I had 8 pieces!!! Well I'm going to workout today and fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Oh Nicki, don't I know about those evil family traditions related to food! Just sent my college kid back off to school and realized that we ate out every day while he was here-all in the name of tradition!

Sad he's gone, but relieved that I can get back to my eating routine. At least that is, until he comes back in three weeks for Christmas break!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Sounds like you got this handled!

Hi all- I did well on Thanksgiving, didn't eat a lot, ate slowly and really chewed and didn't get stuck. Had a little pie at dessert, not a lot (we do an Iron Chef competition with the little kids, they each make a pudding pie and we "judge" them- they love it!). Have done well with leftovers- had mashed potatoes and gravy with a little turkey, yummy! Still not kicked the ice cream habit though- really struggling with giving that up- it's a true addiction!

Didn't do any shopping at all, maybe will do some Cyber Monday stuff, we'll see :)

Today is another day. I hardly slept at all last night, but still have my exercise stuff here- to guilt myself into working out! I won't be able to work out at work on Wednesday or Thursday, so I'll have to figure something else out at home, but that's okay.

Hope everyone is doing well- I wish Meredith would check in, worried about her, haven't heard since the storm and she's right on the Jersey Shore...

Shocker!! At 191.4 today. I guess Sees candy has not caught up yet. Maybe I can beat it by going to the gym tonight!! Happy Monday everyone!!

Hi all! Great job over T-giving everyone.seems we all had our challenges, but we handled them relatively well. Yay us! I am worried about Meredith too! I'm going to see if I have her address somewhere. Does anyone know if being dehydrated would cause the band to tighten up?

Nicki, I wonder about Meredith, too. Can't even imagine the band tightness that stress would cause if she's in the middle of it. Just hoping she and her family are OK.

Nicole, doesn't it feel great not to go UP at Thanksgiving! Cheers!

I am at 174 still, not up not down. I have not been in 160s for about 15 years, I really need to start "owning" the likelihood of a lower weight.

Chrissylu, yes to the Water question!

That's interesting to hear on the dehydration, ive often wondered if i just needed to keep drinking fluids throughout the day just to keep the whole opened enough to get some food down. am and afternoon im tight but by dinner time i can eat anything....... hitting a plateau for a while now, need to refocus again, it sure is getting harder now.

Yes, the Water will help with the tightness. But...I am still tight every morning and drink my Breakfast. Whenever I think I can fake the band out by eating real food, it just laughs at me and I pay the price!

Are you drinking enough? What does your dr. recommend? I drink about 64 oz. per day, spread throughout the day and it does seem to keep me from eating too much.

I read somewhere that when you think you are hungry, that you may really be thirsty.

I know this is going to sound strange, but I am thrilled. I saw my surgeon today and didn't get a fill! He says that my eight pound loss in the six weeks since my last unfill is perfect. Remember, I'm a lot further out from surgery than you guys but I'm still not at my goal weight either...

He wanted to know what I was doing differently and I told him that I am journaling RELIGIOUSLY on my fitness pal and that I have found a good, positive support group here on LBT.

Can I tell you all how refreshing your thread is? You ladies have such welcoming spirits and have made me feel part of something uplifting instead of bogged down in the pettiness that I was finding elsewhere.

I raise up to all of you here a huge "THANK YOU" of gratitude.

Rkimom, that is so great! I need to get back on MFP, for sure I'm better when I journal everything! We are glad you like us, LOL. We are a great team, if I do say so myself. I know I need support from people going through what I am going through.

Nicole- Whoo hoo! We do that candy thing at Christmas, too. Oh, the traditions that revolve around food!

Chrissy- I wonder, I"m so much tighter in the morning too- I've started not eating breakfast, just sipping hot tea- but then I'm starving by lunch time, so that's not really working- more tweaks to make!

Kymie- yep, it's not new and shiny anymore, right? But we have to be in it for the long haul. I definitely need to refocus too. It's a process.

Ladybandido- I too haven't been this weight in a long time, I'm sure some of it's mental for me. I put on my winter jacket that's over 10 years old that I haven't been able to wear for like 8 years, and it fits like it used to!

I got that carb cycling book they're posting on the food area of this place- check out Missy's thread- carb cycling, an experiment gone right. I'm not going to start until January, but it looks doable!

So still trucking along :)

Check in everyone! I need you! :)

Nicki

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
