Finally Happened...stuck At A Restaurant

Recommended Posts

We went out to brunch with a friend of ours on Sunday. Everything was going fine until I took too big of a bite of something...I was talking and not paying attention, and I didn't realize until it was too late. Seconds later I was in the bathroom and I'm sure I don't need to explain the rest. Uncomfortable, painful, and oh so embarrassing!

Needless to say it was a big wake up call and a reminder to never, ever be complacent with this band. I never want to go through anything like that ever again!

I almost did that recently, had order tomatoe and shrimp cream Soup ( not exaclty diety, but it was all they had that I could eat) anyway, I took a bite of the soup with a small shrimp and also without thinking took a bite of the bread. Didnt chew enough and it got stuck, thankfully I hadnt taken a huge bite and it eventually went down. but it was kind of scarey for me. Needless to say a good reminder of what we are NOT suppose to eat.

The more fill you get the easier it is to get stuck if you do not be careful. I always find out where bathroom is right away anytime I go anywhere.

I've had it happen to me a few times also. Each time was because I did something stupid in which I should know better.

Last time was at an Outback Restaurant. My Son ordered coconut shrimp. I grabbed and ate just one.

Coconut Shrimp! What was I thinking, or not thinking I should say. Have you ever seen one of those things? Every banded person should easily recognize that as a "Do Not Eat or Else" food.< /p>

I don't have problems with the shrimp... thank god (being from Louisiana). I just have to eat them slow and chew the hell out of them. We went to Outback Saturday night and had the shrimp. I did fine, but it kills me not to eat the bread....omg i love that bread... but i learned my lesson last time i was there.... got stuck and ran to the bathroom. so I ate two shrimp, two bites of salad and about four bites of mashed potato.... and i was done.

Beth.... 123 answered your question... the more fill the tighter, the more you will have to watch what you eat.... at first i could eat most anything... bread, pizza, rice, grits... but as you get filled the less you will be able to eat.... two years later... no bread, no pizza, no rice, no grits....no left overs, no steak (unless cooked MR), chicken cooked very moist and tender.

most important..... eat slow, PAY ATTENTION while eating and no drinking while eating....

Same thing happened to me! Waitress came by to see if everything was alright, since it takes me FOREVER to eat anything. So, I quickly swallowed (it was a dang shrimp!) and answered that everything was fine. Mom taught me not to talk with my mouth full, damn her! And everything WAS fine, for about 35 seconds. Then I had to hit the ladies room. I thought I would die of embarrassment, too, till my dear husband remarked how he bet the wait staff never met a 300# bulimic before! Got to admit, that is funny! Luckily for us, we are regulars at this particular restaurant, and explained it to our server. She got a giggle over the 300# bulimia story, too. (Turns out she knows 3 or 4 people who have been banded, and she was very understanding) See, even the awful moments are learning experiences!

And I agree, know your exit strategy! Find the ladies room early!

Getting stuck SUCKS.. .done it a few times... all because of not paying attention yet. still learning this band stuff... had 1 fill thus far. Typically take a bite and as I am swallowing I am saying to myself... Dang, this gonna suck.... and it does...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
