I am seeing so many people who were banded have to "revise" the surgery to bypass. I have been set on the band, but recently am having thoughts of "will I just have to have bypass eventually?" I am concerned about how long the band will last and long it will be effective! Has anyone else had these thoughts?

That's a loaded question ! It depends on you allot !

if you throw up all the time, if you insist on being really tight,

If you take certain Medications "Ibuprofin is one of them" all the time it can cause problems wit the band.

These things, and more can shorten the life span of the Band "NOT THAT THEY WILL ! I SAID CAN...."

We all have rules to follow, to loose weight, but we have to be careful ,and take care of it. The Band is always maintened by a Dr., that's why we go in for whatever we need.

RNY your surgery is completed, you know the rules for WL, the rest is up to you. No need for a Dr. for WL....

When I met with my New Surgeon where I now live. They thought this little 4cc band would be shot by now, and was thinking a new band will be the solution to any problem.

Well, I had no problem, just Deflated, the band was in excellent shape, "I seen that under Fluoroscope" and No surgey necessary.

So depending on you, and how you take care of it, it can last a while.

So I guess if the band would fail do to defect, and no erosion, or slippage, It can be replaced with another band.

Nothing lasts forever, so that would work for me.
