December 9, 201114 yr I have been craving a salad but I have been told its hard to digest, anyone else have problems??
December 9, 201114 yr It depends on what you put in the salad. If it is really fibrous, it can be hard to get down. Otherwise, I don't have problems with salad. Chicken breast on top is a no go for me.
December 9, 201114 yr I eat salads quite a bit. I agree it depends on what is in the salads. I had taco salad last night, made at home with spring mix type lettuce, onion, red bell pepper, light red kidney beans, ground beef, cheese, a few fritos for crunch. The light red beans are softer than the dark red. Today I had a shrimp and spinach salad at applebees for lunch. I can't eat all the salad or all the shrimp. I tend to have trouble with tomatoes and cucumbers. It's trial and error to figure out what works for me. I never use iceburg lettuce. Sometimes I take spring mix type salad to work for lunch and add things like cheese and sunflower seeds. With salads I just make sure I chew every bite well.
December 9, 201114 yr I eat salads every single day I just dont use regular lettuce I get romaine or spring mix not an issue to me
December 9, 201114 yr I ate salad all summer long every day, i just cut up everything really small before eating, i can only eat hot fresh cooked chicken breast, cold chicken is a big no no for me. Salad dressing i would make myself from lemon joice, white wine vinegar, wholegrain or dijon mustard and splenda i would also put some chilli flakes on the tomatoes to save me using salt ..
December 9, 201114 yr I eat salad often. Just take small bites and chew well. If I'm eating meat like chicken on my salad, just make sure it's a small bite. Good Luck
December 10, 201114 yr I eat salad without a problem. I had surgery 10/12 and ive had one 2cc fill. So far everything goes down. My band tells me when to stop. It's a wonderful thing!
December 10, 201114 yr I was worried about salads at first, but once I ate one I knew it would be fine. You will find though that if you eat the protein in the salad first you do not have much room left for the lettuce
December 10, 201114 yr I just started eating salads recently. Sometimes I have no problem getting it down and sometimes I do (but that's most things for me). I say chew, chew, chew if you are going to try a salad.
December 10, 201114 yr I had salads all last week for lunch...I used baby spinach instead of iceburg lettuce though with some chick peas and chicken breast, plum tomatoes, carrots, and cheese. It worked well and kept me full for quite some time!
December 10, 201114 yr Author Thanks y'all!! I heard iceberg was the worst! I am excited now, cause I love me some salads. I have found that me and bananas do NOT get along. I ate one for a snack and 15 mins later I felt like I have a stomach bug.
December 10, 201114 yr Bananas don't work well for me either. Tomato skins can be tough to eat, also. Take each bite slowly. If you get ANY pain, stop and be sure all is well before proceeding. I do fine with iceburg lettuce. Remove the strings from celery.
December 10, 201114 yr Yeah, I just dont like tomato anymore, the skins are just too hard, I love tomato flavour - Pasta sauch, ketchup, cooked tomato, no problem but I dont put tomato in my salads. I need lube with a salad now. I usually just use olive oil, salt and pepper. When we eat salad with dinner - we dont do it the way you guys do, salad isnt served first and then you eat your main, we serve salad with the main course - a tossed garden salad would replace hot vegetables in the summer, with a barbecue or whatever. I used to be a person who ate everything on my plate separately, now I eat my salad with a bite of my meat and use the gravy, or the relish or whatever condiment. Sounds disgusting, lol, but I really like the cold crunch of the salad with the hot flavour of whatever Protein we're having. I do like salad for lunch - with a can of tuna or something but truth is, while it fills and satisfies me, I will have a sugar binge at 4pm. It simply is not enough food to get me through, I do way way better to load my salad and protein onto a piece of bread or toast or even make a sandwich with two slices of bread. I know that's not the norm for a bandster but it works for me. Better to eat two slices of wholegrain bread than seven oreos at 4pm! as to being hard to digest, I suspect you mean hard to get past your band, but it is in fact quite hard for your body to break down - whilst I had my ileostomy I had three bowel obstructions for which I had to be hospitalised and have bowel rest, each time was after eating salad. And even when it didnt block me up, I would um, recognize most of what I'd eaten when it came out in my bag. Chew chew chew indeed.
