How To Set Goals?

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on November 21st. I would like to set myself a Christmas weight loss goal but I don't know what to expect to lose being that I was just banded. I have already lost 22 pounds (8 of those pounds since surgery) but I don't expect to be losing that quickly the whole time. Does anyone have a sense of what the average may be for the first month after being banded? I plan on eating healthy, Protein heavy meals with little to no snacking in between (once I'm back to regular eating of course). I won't be able to start exercising regularly until after the holidays. I know it differs per person, but I was just hoping to get a roundabout idea. I also have a wedding I'm going to be in on January 13th so I would like to set a goal for that date as well. Thanks!! :)

I gained 5 lbs the first month after I was banded. The doctor said it was from going back to foods instead of just being on liquids. Of course it came back off. I wouldn't set a one-month goal. :)

I agree with Kim. I have been banded since Sept 14 and I am at a stand still. Everyone including the doctors are telling me that I have to wait for more fills. I have had two fills now, each 2cc. so I have a total of 4, but they say you don't really feel restriction until your 3 or 4th fill.

If I would have set a goal for the first month, I would have lost 16lbs (due to liquid diet) but gained back 5lbs on and off in Nov. I am trying very hard not to be discourage b/c everyone is right, it's a process, not a quick fix.

Good luck! :)

I'd not set a goal, but just work on good habits. A lot of people don't lose weight during this time. I was up and down like 2 lbs weeks 2-4. Finally started losing week 5. So if you are like this, you'll only set yourself up for disappointment.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
