Stuck At Current Weight

Recommended Posts

I've lost a total of 35 pounds. I check my weight every other day and my number hasn't moved all week.

Is it normal to reach a plateau soon after surgery?

when did you start solid foods? some folks have a brief stall while transitioning from liquids to foods. Are you tracking your intake and fluids? also, are you exercising?

just some thoughts...good luck

First off, one week of not weight loss is not a plateau. Secondly, I saw you had surgery 11/11. The first six weeks are not about weight loss, but about healing. It is quite normal not to lose weight during that time. I lost and gained the same 2 pounds over weeks 2-5 post op. Your body is trying to heal itself from the surgery. And I assume your caloric intake is minimal right now. I cannot lose weight on a very low calorie diet. Week 6 I had finally got my intake up to 1100-1200 and that's when I started losing again. Have patience and the scale will move.

I know you are eager to get major wt off and 35 pounds is nothing to sneeze at!!! Slow down and pay attention to the posters who are giving you solid advice, especially Jess. This is a marathon, not a 5K and you will endure many wt fluctuations and then one day you arrive at maintenance.....then what is the plan to keep your weight stable? You must learn and grow through this journey...the easiest part is what we are good at...gaining and losing!! So make haste slowly while listening to your body and the many good posters here. You are going to do very very well and I will be following your posts on your journey to health and wellness.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I see the other posters here have given some good advice. One more piece of advice I can add is, do not weigh yourself everyday, it will send you on an emotional roller coaster. Pick one day a week and try to weigh yourself at about the same time of day every week. Good Luck on your journey.

Aria I joined this forum and replied to this post brcyase the forum is meant for us yo share what is happening and so we are able to familiarize ourselves with others not to have someone criticize others opinions or posts. And if the original person who posted did not find the need to tell me not to post I don't see the reason you took out of your day to do it. I apologize if I offended anyone but I think theres ways of wording things that can be more forum friendly

Every month for the past 7 months, I have gone through a week or so where I thought I wasn't losing. Then for some reason around my TOM, 5 or 6 lbs will drop off. It's frustrating sometimes, I just have to remember that it will come off and keep on keeping on. If you're like me, then you probably wish you could just ahead and lose 25 lbs a month and get it over with...............lol.

Aria,

It sounds like you just want to loose the weight as quickly as you possibly can. For your birthday? Feel lucky that you actually got the surgery, as some of us do not even have that pleasure. Why would you want the weight to come off so fast anyway? You've been this big for years I assume, like all of us, so whats another year or possibly longer?

I just don't get why people think this is a quick fix, and would even want to loose the weight that fast to begin with, aren't you scared of loose skin? If looking and feeling your best is your goal, you should be more worried about that, because if you loose too quickly, your skin is going to to be sagging all over, is that what you want? Be glad its coming off slowly, and do I really have to point out that you JUST had the surgery? It hasn't even been a month yet.

Excuse my concern. I'm a newbie. Sheesh!

Congrats on losing 35lbs! Take it one day at a time. Try not to obsess over the numbers. For the first 2 months or so your body is adjusting to the changes. If you follow the rules your doctor gave you it will start to come off!

Also, about the sagging skin thing - from what I have read it is also your body. Some people sag some people don't . I have major stretch marks all over and from what my dr told me that skin will probably not bounce back no matter how slow I lose or how much I exercise. Just my two cents!

Good Luck to you!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
