Lap Band Surgery in just under a month and I am nervous!

Recommended Posts

Not sure why, since I kept thinking it would never get here!

An intro to me: I'm 37, married and currently living in Newark Delaware with my husband and son. My surgery date is December 14th. I've been overweight almost my entire life. I'm sick and tired of the effects my added weight has caused, not to mention rude strangers reaching out to pat my belly and asking, "when are you due?" Ergh! I tend to cary most of my weight in my belly, which is another bone of contention, but I digress :-)

Any advice, suggestions, thoughts, etc, are welcomed!

I'm scheduled for surgery on December 15th. Good to know someone that will be going through it at the same time as me! I have a tendency to carry my weight in my belly too, which is a new thing. I have always been overweight, but proportionate. I've always hated buying jeans because while I was overweight, I had a smaller waist. I've been on steriods multiple times due to Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis, and it's really changed my physique. Not only has it caused me to gain additional weight (oh joy) but I've become more beach ball shaped. Not attractive. I'm so looking forward to this next step and the changes that will come!! My surgery is December 14th too! I've been overweight my entire life, I remember in 2nd grade we were playing a game and my teacher made all of us step on the scale to see how much we weighed, I was 107 pounds in SECOND grade! I will never forget that moment, I think that's the first moment I realized I was different than everyone else, that's when I started to become really shy and self-conscious. We should all keep in touch and share our experiences together! I'm so excited for my surgery, less than a month away :)

Hi Ladies! Good luck on your journey. I was just banded on 11/09/11 and it was the best thing I could've done there are no regrets.I was more than nervous leading up to the week before my surgery. I e-mailed my doctors office constantly. The morning of my surgery I was not nervous at all. The last thing I remember was my family walking out of the room and the nurse asking me was I sure I wanted to do this and when I knew anything I was in recovery and she was telling me it was time to get up. I had discomfort around my incisions and it wasn't unbearable the most pain was from the gas and the best thing for that is walk walk walk. After getting home I was up a few hours later I was up walking 1/2 way up my street and that was the best, some say gas x but walking was the best thing for me. Good lck in your journey.

Congratulations on your decision and your upcoming surgery date. I got my band 7/7/11 and I have lost 66 pounds so far - 52 more to go ! I feel great and I never given this a second thought. When I think about how ugly fat and tired I was - yuck. I have gone from an 18/20 to a solid 14. I walk reguarly and do some exercises but mostly walking. Yes, the gas and shoulder pain is no fun (no pain at the surgery site) but if you walk and take it easy for a few days - poof - it is done and you feel good as new. It took me 6 months to go through the process and getting my apporval but if anyone ever asked me if I regret it - the answer is a loud NO..sure I can't eat like I used to, but I don't look like I used to and and I don't feel that way either. You will do great and I wish you much success on your new journey..Happy Thanksgiving to everyone !

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
