2 Weeks Post Lap Band Surgery And A Margarita???

Recommended Posts

This Friday I will be 2 weeks post-op. First of all, I am NOT a big drinker at all. I never get drunk and maybe have one drink once a month. So the calories in alcohol aren't a factor because I don't drink enough to do anything to mess my diet up.

That being said, is it ok after 2 weeks though? I am going to a scrapbooking party and they will have margarittas. No carbonation and it's just liquid, so I don't see why not, but maybe I am missing something.

My trusty little binder says no alchohol ever because of the calories, but that's dumb and I can factor that into my daily count.

Why would you sabotage your weight loss this early? Did your MD, provide you with a diet to follow the first 6 weeks post-op? There are empty calories in alcohol, personally I rather eat, than waste calories on wine or cocktails.I would wait until you have completely healed. By the way, once you have been banded, alcohol affects you quicker, according to other posters.

Stay away from the alcohol, you got the lap band to lose weight and need to follow the program. If you sabotage yourself this early how will the rest of your journey go. I agree with the above post, I would rather use my calories to eat then drink. Good luck

But how is that sabotaging? I am not going to NEVER drink again. That's not why I got the band. I can factor it into my daily allotment. I don't get that argument.

How can I follow their instructions? They told me to never drink it ever again because of the calories. Well I am not going to NEVER going to put empty calories in my body. That's not even realistic. But I can be smart about it.

My question was about just being post-op and it being ok with my healing.

More thoughts...

Do you guys NEVER have a drink or anything with empty calories? I am really fascinated by this. I am doing really great with the band and expect to keep doing so, but I am still doing to enjoy life. When my son turns 3 in April, I will have cake, but I won't eat a piece the size of texas this time. I got the band to help me control my poritons which it completely does. I don't eat 1/4 of what I used to, SERIOULSY not even a 1/4. But I am not doing to use this to control me. I control it and my eating.

I dont mean to offend, but this band is for me to help not eat enough for 3 people. I didn't get fat from a twinkie. I got fat from eating a box of them.

Just my two cents.

I don't see a problem with having a margarita or 2, but that's just me. The girls above that gave you that advice have lost LOTS of weight! I hope to be there one day, but I am guilty of putting empty calories in my body.

Well I thought I made it clear that I am not a drinker. Honestly my empty calories would come from milk. So maybe that advice is better for the big drinkers. I probably haven't had alcohol in 4-5 months.

I had a date exactly 2 weeks post op. Obviously dinner was out of the question so we went out for drinks. Didn't want to look weird drinking Water, so I had a couple margaritas. They were wonderful, I didn't die, stayed under my calories for the day, still lost weight. I wouldn't sweat it!!

Milk does not have empty calories, skim milk or almond milk is an excellent addition to lapband diet. You asked for opinion about having a cocktail this early in your journey...and that's what you got. I didn't say never! By the way I"m a RN who as been dealing with lapband patients for 6 yrs.

True. I should have said that was the closest to empty calories. I meant to say I don't drink my calories.

Let me rephrase. Will it hurt my recovery? That's my concern more than anything. I don't want to hurt anything. Since you are a nurse, maybe you can explain to me why it would hurt my healing. Info like that really helps me think twice. But someone, anyone, tells me I am sabotaging my weightloss just sounds silly. I probably would never be able to drink a whole one period ever again because I can't drink much in one sitting any more. But I monitor my calories and couldn't eat or drink 1200 a day if I tried! At least not now. So my weight loss will definitely go untouched since my bmr is like 2400 cal.

I would be careful. If you are on a liquid or mushy diet the alcohol is likely to affect you a lot quicker than it normally would. You may end up feeling awful and you don't want that. If you do drink the alcohol remember not to eat and drink at the same time .

Yes i eat everything in small amts. However, I was very strict for first few months. You are just starting your journey& many people have struggled with slow weight loss,so my opinion still remains .. wait awhile before you treat yourself.By the way I don't count calories,I eat regular food & go out to dinner 3X/week

Gotcha that makes sense. I guess I was just hoping to enjoy it because I never did it even without the band. I think eventually I won't have to count , but for now it's been interesting to see how little I eat. I can't believe it personally. I finish very few meals. Onto mushies Friday. 23 pounds down too! So far so easy!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
