Anyone Have A Pet Or Cat Scan With The Lap Band ?

I see my oncologist next month and we will do a pet or cat scan depending on my dam insurance.

I wonder if anyone did a scan with the band?

I can’t drink the gallon of barium unless I go three hours before, and was wonder how is works. I assume the center has experiencied patients with the band but want to get some real life ideas.

I have a Metal ring at my port site, so I know I can't go in a MRI, Not sure about the CT Scan.

They found it on a Bone Density Test. Asked me to remove my Bellybutton Ring.... I don't have one ! ! ! So it's from the Band. This was News to me.

Just passing this along.

I haven't had a CAT scan but I have had an MRI and there was no problem.

I've had a CAT scan when I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. I drank the stuff, but it didnt make it all the way through my digestive system. The scan was clear enough anyway, but not as clear as it would have been with the contrast. I'm going in for my one year follow up CAT scan in November, when I rang to book I explained what happened last time. I simply have to fast for 12 hours instead of two, so that my system is pretty clear and it can get all the way through with nothing to hold it up. And I'm going an hour earlier to allow a bit more time.

Interestingly they found the results hard to read because I'm not fat enough! There's no fat separating my organs, they all blend together in the scan. They found the rectal tumour during a colonoscopy so they were able to see it, but I have a uterine fibroid I didnt know about on the back wall of my uterous, back to back with where the tumour was, and because they couldnt see any space between my rectum and my uterus, they thought it was a huge, very advanced mass. It was bad enough, but thankfully it wasnt as big as a grapefruit! In a heavier person, there's fat layers that separate the organs and you can see more clearly apparently.

I also had two MRI's, no problems there, and radiation and chemo, again no problems. Two surgeries no problems either. Colonoscopy preps are the hardest bit, I cant down that awful stuff in a gulp but have to sip sip sip.

I just had two CAT scans last month. Ask your surgeon but I had to get totally UNFILLED for the CAT Scan. I was at two seperate hospitals (both Bariatric Centers of Excellence) and both told me the same thing. No CAT scan with fluid in your band.

Also, there is special barium for weight loss patients. Found that out too at the hospital. And I am SO glad I was at a hospitatl that understood lap band surgery and had a bariatric surgeon on staff. (I was on vacation and not near my own surgeon)

I didnt have to drink barium it was a clear fluid with the consistency of water and then they injected iodine into me via my arm. I drank the fluid over about an hour - it was at least a litre, eeeeew.

I have been told that the band is MRI safe. I did have to have it deflated to have surgery on my hip.

Update ! I had a MRI while I was in the Hospital last month. Turns out the Metal ring is Titanium, so it was not a problem.
