64 oz of fluid....that is difficult

Recommended Posts

Day 2 post op. I am suppose to be drinking 64 oz of Fluid per day. What the heck? That is so difficult. I can only get one sip down at a time bc nurse said i am swollen. I get it....you dont want to get dehydrated. It is 1:30 pm and i've had 1 cup broth and about 6 oz of Water. I feel like i have been drinking as much as I can. I may try some hot tea later as the broth seemed to go down easier than water. Any tips for me getting in my liquids?

It is really hard the first couple of days. Just drink as much as you can. Constantly sip on something. You probably won't get your 64 in, I didn't @ first but no, you don't want to get dehydrated.

Hot tea is a great idea. I've been told hot liquids loosen up the band, don't know if it's true for postop swelling but it can't hurt. Make it decaff and it will count towards your fluids. Just keep doing your best, as your doing. You will feel much better in a few days. Congrats on your surgery!

That broth that you had,,,, that counts for your 64 oz of water.. so measure everything .

I take a 1/2 gallon jug filled with Water, kept in the fridge, and use it for everything, that's shakes included.

You can't drink everything that you have to, plus down that amount of water. So I checked with my surgeon, and he was impressed.

So it works. I know your swollen, don't push it, you will go down with time, just do what you can.

I was so obsessed with trying to get in as much Fluid as possible. I actually had so much post op swelling that I couldnt even swallow my own spit. When I called my surgeon he told me not to stress... That I had so much fluids through my IV during surgery that I would dehydrate that soon. After he took out all my fluid I could swallow again. Just try to sip constantly and you'll be fine. The first few days are hard to get anything down. Also, sugar free Popsicles really help get fluid in.

I was told 32 oz to start and then move up from there. I haven't been able to get that down either. I am trying though. Today is hard since I have a stomach ache and don't want to upset anything further.

Aside from dehydration, lack of fluids can lead to Constipation so you really should drink all that you can, and as a previous poster said, all liquids count. I had a problem with a sore throat from the intubation tube that made drinking more

difficult and hot liquids seemed to go down easier. Our nutritionist suggested mint tea.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
