So, I've been have some burning and stinging feelings around my port area for the past few days but kinda shrugged it off as typical post op port pain(I'm almost 6 weeks post op). But then tonight I was touching my port area and felt this hard lump sticking out from my incision. I checked it out and I can see the white of the port really sticking out and it appears to me that more port has at least detached partially. The skin hasn't broken... But my skin there is super thin. I'm hoping it doesn't pop through the skin before I see my surgeon on Monday. I called my surgeon tonight and he wants to see me first thing Monday.

Anyway, my question is have any of you had this problem or heard of this problem? Is it somewhat common? To repair it will I need another surgery? It's somewhat painful so I'm assuming it can't just stay like this.

Thanks for your input. I'm a little concerned about this.

BaileyRose - That stinks. I sure hope you get good news tomorrow.

I know my surgeon told me that if the wound opens and the port or any part of the band is visible then the whole thing has to come out and they start over. I sure hope that does not happen for you.

Welp my incision just opened and my port is exposed. Just called my surgeon's on call number and am waiting for a call back. Probably will be heading to the ER soon. Ugh... I'm so not looking forward to go through this again. I'll keep you posted. How did your infection clear up?

Thanks everyone for your prayers! Tonight actually turned out way better than I expected. My port is still intact. It was actually my tubing that had popped through my incision. So I met my surgeon at the ER and she just stuck it back inside and stitched me right up. I did still have an infection in my incision but I'm on a second round of antibiotics and hopefully that will clear it up. If not than they may have to relocated my port at a different time but that's okay. Hopefully that won't happen though.

On a side note, I had morphine for the first time ever tonight... Haha that was fun!

Thanks again everyone. I'm feeling much better now that I don't have 2 inches of tubing sticking out. :-)

BaileyRose - Wow!! How scary was that!? I am glad that your surgeon got there right away and was able to put the tubing back and sew you back up. That is such a relief! I thought you'd have had to have another surgery - thank goodness we were both wrong!

Thanks for asking about my infection. I took the last of my antibiotics yesterday morning and so far it looks good. The skin still has a couple of pink spots but they seem to be diminishing (more like scarring or bruising) and there is just a tiny bit of pink around the incision - doesn't look like infection though. The part of the incision that opened a little bit (not fully, just on the surface) has continued to drain but that seems to be slowing down a lot and it looks like it is closing up. I will keep an eye on it for the next couple of days then I will be going back to the surgeon to see if he is happy with it so far.

I am hoping that I don't have to take any more antibiotics because they have given me a wicked yeast infection. Sorry, TMI.

I hope I can be of some encouragement. I had almost the same thing happen, however, my port did in fact dislodge. A few months afte surgery I was dealing with a incision suroma that the doctor drained twice and the 2nd time that tubing came right through the incision. I had 2 inches of tubing sticking out of my belly, so I can relate as to the frightening experience. Anyhow, I went in and my doctor gave me a local and was going to do the same thing that was done to you and push the port tubing back in then sew it back up, but, then discovered that my whole port had dislodged. I was then put under and woke up with my port relocated to my right side.

Was it worth it? Oh heck yes!!!!!!!! Complications do occur, but, as you can see my results on the ticker below show that I am a new person and now the biggest complaint I have is dealing with so many compliments. My health has improved tremendously and I dropped from 8 prescribed medications to 3. I am off my cpap and feel many years younger. Best darn thing I could have done for myself!!! Jake

Slimbandsexy- thanks for checking in on me! I'm doing ok. I had to leave work early today... I'm a hairstylist and being on my feet all day was harder than I expected. I came home and slept for 4 1/2 hours! This weekend just wore me out, I guess. I'm on a pretty intense antibiotic... Thankful I have insurance because without it it would have cost $475! That's insane. So hopefully everything will clear up nicely. Thanks again! You guys are the best :-)

Jake- thanks so much for the encouragement. You're exactly right... It's so worth it. My husband was really concerned about me and all the complications I've had already just this early in the journey... But unjust told him you deal with them as they come and it will be worth it in the long run. I've already lost 40 lbs thanks to this band... Plus a little hard work :-) but honestly, this is the easiest I've ever had to work to lose weight. Maybe not easiest? Maybe it's just that I have hope this time. I've lost 40 lbs before on my own but this time I know i will never see those numbers again.

I'm glad someone else has gone through what I'm going through... That's comforting. And congrats on your new self! You should be so proud! How long ago was your surgery?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
