What kind of birth control do you use?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

Sort of a personal question but I was just wondering what kind of birth control other banded ladies use? I don't want to have another baby until I am under 200 lbs, and condoms SUCK. Well, actually, they sort of prevent sucking if you know what I mean. Oh man that was crass. Anywho, I just got a prescription for the nuva ring. I've never used it before and am wondering if anyone else has, and what your experience with it was? If you use another form of BC, what do you use and do you find that it causes you to gain weight or loose more slowly?

Thanks, and pardon my crass and somewhat intrusive question!!

I'm on the pill and it works for us. Not ever planning on having more kids! Thanks for the entertaining post :)

The one I am on is called Camilla. It is usually used by nursing mothers. Have not seen a weight gain because of it and I have been on it for a couple years :) So maybe that will be the one for you too!

I can't really help you since my form of birth control is called "being over 50." I just wanted to give you a well deserved LOL. ^That's funny!

I have an IUD and love it! No having to think about birth control. I have had it for years and when its time is up will replace it until menopause.

I just use condoms now (every time), but I'm thinking about getting an IUD too. I used to be on birth control pills, but stopped taking them because they contributed to some rapid weight gain. A copper IUD would be the best thing for me.

I personally don't want to stop using condoms, even if I get an IUD. Too many people I'm close to have had unplanned pregnancies (that of course turned their lives around), and I don't want to risk it- especially since I'm getting the band next week.

I also have an IUD and love it! The shot made me fat right before I was banded and I've never been a fan of pills. IUD so easy and no worries for 5 years.

I've been on Yaz for years. My gyno put me on it because it has different hormones than traditional bc pills and I was battling PCOS. Love it, never had a problem, and my periods are shorter and lighter (always a good thing!). My insurance company switched me to the generic form of Yaz last year when it came out and I had problems, so I have to take the name brand. They claim the generic is the same, but I can assure you for me it was NOT (and several others I talked to). Hopefully though, I'll be going off it soon because my clock is starting to tick I'd really like my hubby to knock me up soon. ;)

Been on Seasonale for years. The best part (besides not getting pregnant), only get a period every 3 months. A little spotting when I first took it and no weight gain.

I've been using Nuvaring for about two years and I love it! I don't have to remember to take a pill every day and it doesn't make me feel crappy like oral contraceptives used to. I still use condoms anyway because I am so not ready for motherhood at this point, but it's supposed to be as effective as any other hormonal birth control method. My GYN said it also has a lower incidence of weight gain. Give it a try!

When I actaully comply with my birth control I am on loestrin24 Fe, I don't take it regulary because I am not doing anything that requires prevention of having children  . But when I do I will comply lol  plus I don't want to have any kids until I am at least 150lbs and one is enough!

I'm on seasonique, 4 periods a year, no weight gain issues, PMS is completely gone and cramping is minimal to absent. It is the best!

Just a warning on any birth control...pill, shots, rings, etc...My gyno said that with a lot of weight loss, your hormones are thrown off and you're more likely to get pregnant even if you are faithfully taking your pills etc. So if you are really worried, you may still want to use condoms. If you got the nuvaring, it's worth a try. I've heard others like it. BC is really a personal choice on what kind and what works best for you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
