Tricare standard requirement??

Recommended Posts

I was informed at my pre op visit yesterday that my insurance, tricare standard, requires an overnight stay. I had not heard this before and kinda wonder if it's just the hospitals way to make more money or if it's true. I was told at my dr clinic originally it would be day surgery and i could go home if there were no problems. If I need the care I'm all for it but if I don't that will be an extra 1000 bux out of my pocket. Anyone know anything about tricare requiring this?!?!?

Surgery scheduled Wednesday July 6th!!!!!

I have TriCare and they do not require you to stay the night. I was out of surgery at 9 AM and went home by 6 PM. Your doctor might want you to have the extra care, you should also call TriCare yorself and make sure. The surgery isnt bad at all, I was up showered, dressed, w make up and my hair done running errands the next day! Good luck and congrats on your journey

Haven't had my surgery yet but my doc says the patient's safety is the most important thing so he has you stay overnight. That way they can monitor you overnight and do a barium swallow the next am to make sure everything is working well.

I had Tricare and I had to stay overnight. It was the best thing that could have happened. I had wonderful care and would recommend it.

Thanks y'all for the info. I definitely want to do what is safest and best for my recovery. I had just heard so many people state they were fine going home and I had not financialy planned for the extra expense since I was told ahead of time I wouldn't have to worry about it. I am so very excited and will probably be thankful for the stay.

@Deborah Ann- from what I understand it depends what tricare program you are on.. I have tricare standard and had no problems getting approved at all. Not sure what all they looked at.

Aaaaah... I'm being banded same day as you, tomorrow, and I also have tricare standard. I haven't heard of this either, yet.. but in a few hours I have pre-op with my surgeon, then at the hospital. I'll be sure to ask :) Sooooo nervous... it's crazy to think this time tomorrow, we'll be bandsters!

I believe standard requires an overnight stay, but prime is only an overnight stay if you have a hiatal hernia. I was in surgery at 7:30 a.m. and home by 11:00 a.m.. I loved my reclining couch for the first week ;)

I'm not sure what the requirements are. I have prime and my surgeon wrote my orders for an overnight stay as well. Not sure if that was just for paperwork reasons, a "just in case" situation or what but I will be preparing for it anyway.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
