Need advice-band issue mystery

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Need your help with this one.

I have been banded for almost 2 years and had the strangest issue come up. I awoke a couple nights ago feeling Dizzy and like I might throw up. Also my whole stomach felt swollen and particularly around my port area felt soar like someone gave me a good punch to the gut. I am able to get liquids down but solid or even mushy foods make the swelling even worse. I am also getting chills and just feel dreadful. Now it is almost that "time of month" but I have not really had issues due to that before with the band.

I can only lie on my back to try and sleep since any pressure on my stomach is really uncomfortable.

I'm not throwing up at all, but in the 2 years of having the band I have never thrown up or had the experience of food getting stuck.

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Thanks for your help in advance!!

Sigh! I'm just at a loss here and can't get to a doctor until another day unless I go to an emergency room.

If it was only nausea or dizziness I would say it could be low blood sugar but the fact that you are also experiencing chills and feeling generally off colour would seem to point to some kind of infection. It could be viral, bacterial, hopefully just a bug that will be gone within a few days.

I would suggest keeping your fluids up, using paracetomol for pain and if it gets worse or doesn't go away then go and see a Dr.

Yes, I agree that it sounds like infection. How are you feeling today? Any fever?

Well, bad news today. New doctor did an xray w barium and my band is eroded. Very sad, and scared about surgery.:-(

He will do an endoscopy to confirm but he seems pretty sure this is the case.

Wishing you the best of luck. I had my band removed 1 month ago due to slippage. What matters is your health. Just make a plan to stay healthy. I joined WW, started an appetite suppresant and started working out with a trainer. Let us know how you are!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
