Food for on the GO

Recommended Posts

I need some ideas for foods that fit in a cooler. I am a truck driver, currently working night, like to the tune of 12 to 14 hr shifts. So i sleep during the day wake in the late afternoon. When I get up at 330 I am to tight to eat anything, I have a carnation instant Breakfast fortified with some powdered milk. What I need is ideas for good filling foods that fit in a cooler to take with me. I currently take 4 20 oz bottles of Crystal Light Ice tea, 2 meat and cheese cups. the meat is lean ham that is cubed, and different kinds of cheese. I also take some granola bars, and sometimes some potato chips. Any ideas would be great.

If you can find a higher Protein shake you like, I'd give it a try. I like this one a LOT in vanilla: http://mynutritions.com/vht-extreme-smoothie-11oz-12-pack (I buy it from my doc's office for $30 for a 12 pack-- but obviously I also found it online). It comes in a "soda" can and has 35g of Protein.< /p>

I think the meat and cheese is great. If you get tired of ham, try turkey pepperoni or sliced all-beef summer sausage. If you can tolerate raw veggies, they are very "munchy" and could replace the crunch factor of the chips. Sugar snap peas, cucumber spears, cherry tomatoes-- all are easy to travel with and can be eaten one handed. I usually travel with fruit as well-- berries and grapes are my favorite because again, they can be eaten one handed without any trouble. I am a fan of mini dill pickles and olives too. You might also pack some almonds.

Just be careful with serving sizes. The problem with this "snacky" type food is that mentally it might not feel like a meal even if you're consuming enough calories for a meal. It must be tough to drive for a job and also be banded-- it would be tough for me anyway. I guess stopping for meals at rest areas, etc. as much as possible would be best, so that you can have "meal time" and not just be grazing all day/night.

What about hardboiled eggs? They have lots of Protein and would fill you up! That is my standard "go-to" food. You can always eat just the whites if you want to save on the fat.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
