A question for anyone who cheated on their pre- op diet

I am on my 2 week pre- op liquid diet and for some insane reason I cheated last night. I really don't know how I convienced myself it was ok but I cheated BAD last night. I followed the diet to the "T" for a week and still have another week to go but last night something snapped in my head. I absolutely will not cheat again. Did anybody else cheat on their liquid diet and if so was your liver small enough? I feel horribly guilty!

I know I messed up so please, I do not need a lecture.

Thanks!

p.s. Just remember that you WILL get to eat again. All the good stuff. Just in a new way. No need for dead man's last meal. Now I drink alcohol, eat desserts, heavy sauces and do all the "bad" stuff. I also exercise and make good choices most of the time, but you really don't have to think of this as a life sentence.

I totally cheated on the 14 day liquid diet prior to surgery, and though I wouldn't encourage it, my liver was fine to operate on. I was great for first three days and then each subsequent day I began eating small things like a salad, or a little bit of chicken, or some seafood. The problem was that once I started cheating it was so hard not to do it again the next day. 3 days before surgery I ate some burger (no bun) and noodles, a regular sized meal. I got so freaked out that I put all my effort into the last two days and really did only clear liquids.

I suggest you try to get back on track but don't worry too much about not being fit for surgery. Many doctors prescribe different kinds of diets pre-op from what I read, and some are just low fat, low carb for part of the week or so before surgery. Being guilty won't shrink your liver either so don't sweat it just try and think of the purpose you have. Good luck.

Welcome to the Club! As you can see, it's a very large club, and there are a lot of members! biggrin.gif Let's just try to get rid of the "cheating" label. I'd prefer to say that I didn't eat as well as I could have today. I make good choices most of the time. This philosophy is working for me, and I don't beat myself up with negative feelings.
