Hey Shortney,

Yes, I found a doctor. It all worked out for the best. It is funny how the lemonade taste so good from the lemons tossed your way!!! The doctor I found is a woman and she put me in touch with a support group in my area. She also hooked me up with some really good protien drink mix. She was full of ideas. So I am doing great. I have lost 2" off of my waist, and 23 pounds since my surgery on June 1. Hope everyone else is doing great.

Oh I am sooooo glad to see your post. I am a Mexico Banded May 24, 2005 patient and did what I was told - to set up aftercare before your surgery. I had made aftercare with Dr. Malley and had talked with his associates several times during May and my first fill was scheduled for July 5th. I JUST received a letter yesterday saying they were charging mexico patients 2,000 A YEAR for aftercare!!!!! That is completely out of my range can you please please please tell me who your new woman Dr. is so I can find out if they would accept me too! I am due for my first fill and am extremely disapointed in Dr. Malley's un-professionalism - waiting less than a week of my 1st fill to inform me of the new changes. EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED and heart broken - I balled for hours wondering what I was going to do now. And here I am searching on the internet for hours and finally came across your post - please please help me! You can email me at

CandySmooch@yahoo.com - or I will look for your reply on here. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Wannabtiny and myself are setting out this afternoon for Dr. Tayiem, in Atchison Kansas. It's several hours of driving each way, for both of us. Wannabtiny called me with the bad news about Dr. Malley. She found out just

last friday, and was suppose to get her fill today. I was to get a fill next week, my second with Malley. Neither of us have received the letter from Dr. Malley yet, but thanks to the heads up on this site, we found out all the bad news. The bright side is that Wannabtiny and myself will get to meet, since she found a new doctor for us to try. See a silver lining after all. We'll let you know how it goes. I do think people out there should be warned about Dr. Malley's un ethical practices. I worked with surgeons for over 20 years, and I can tell you he has really disappointed me.

rsduhe,

I pmd wannabetiny to let me know how your visit went. Just in case i need a different doctor. I told the receptionist at Dr. Malley's office i thaught they needed to hold up their agreement to do my aftercare. She said they were not obligated to me. That is why i went in to my other doc right off the bat so i was her patient no matter what. It ended up for the best for me.

Thanks,

shagamelic

candy I PM'D YOU A MESSAGE.

I'm scheduled to be banded in a couple of weeks. I had planned on having Dr. Malley do the procedure I attended his seminar about 9 months ago. Since then he had taken on another associate surgeon, Dr. Jesse Lopez. Last month, the MWIBS sugery coordinator steered me pretty hard toward Dr. Lopez rather than Dr. Malley. I agreed.

In the last couple of weeks, I've had a message from their office saying Dr. Malley has left their practice, but that Dr. Lopez is still there if I want to have my surgery with him.

I don't know what's going on other than 1)there seems to be a lot of confusion 2) Dr. Malley is gone from MWIBS and 3) the patients of Dr. Malley that I interviewed really liked him.

I wonder what's happened??? Has anyone else had Dr. Jesse Lopez from MWIBS do their procedure?? Thanks.

Oh my GOD!!!!!! Dr. Malley left the practice!!!! I wonder when they was planning on calling people and telling them! Oh that makes me so mad. I wonder if Dr. Lopez is nice and if he is any good. Dr. Malley said that he was not ever leaving his practice!

I've met Dr. Lopez- he is very nice and seems quite competent. I really don't have any idea what happened. I don't know when he left -- it could have been last week or two weeks ago. I'm not sure when the message was left. If you happen to call them, pls let us know and post what their 'explanation' is.

Obviously, they'll put a positive spin on it, but I can't help but wonder what's up.

Dr. Malley did my surgery in December 2004 and has been doing my fills. I would love to know where he is. I never had any problems with him, my surgery or my fills. Would like to know if he is staying in the Kansas City area. If anyone find outs, please post.

Interesting - I would really like his new number to see if he's taking on mexico banded patients like he was a 2 months ago before they put that crappy policy in place. Also interesting to find out because I got hooked up with Dr. Lopez also because the institute really pushed him on me - they told me that Dr. Malley's case load was too high so they were giving all new patients to Dr. Lopez. Please if anyone gets his new number soon - please email me candysmooch@yahoo.com or send me a private message on here! Thanks!

I am waiting for insurance approval to have my surgery. I was dissappointed to find out that Dr. Malley had left his practice....so I called to find out what was up. The office staff said he had left without warning and has still not contacted them and that he has a restraining order to practice medicine in that area.????? I am going to go meet with Dr. Lopez next, his credentials are as good if not better than Malley's...so we will see.

Well I located Dr. Malley - apparently his nurses and receptionist left with him and he's started his own practice that opens next week. They are moving into his new office which is still in Overland Park, KS just a different location - so if he has a restraining order to practice medicine (which I've never heard of a restraining order to practice, that's just myself though anyone else?) then he is taking a huge risk by opening his own practice and being so pubicly open about it.

Dr. Malley's nurses were excited I had heard about his new practice and are going to be scheduling my first fill soon. I had told them I wanted to see him a few months ago but they had pushed me onto Dr. Lopez which I didn't really want, then a few days before my fill I get the letter stating they were charging $2,000 a year for patients who didn't have their lapband with Dr. Lopez/Malley.

Dr. Malley is not charging that $2,000 a year in his private practice. I am excited to see him, he is the only Dr. I've found in the area who hasn't given me grief about going to Mexico. His nurse said it doesn't matter if your band was in Mexico or Tennessee - he accepts all patients.

I haven't actually met him, but I've only heard great things about him and now dealing with his staff - I feel like a prayer has been answered for me as I didn't get good vibes after dealing with several other Dr.s. I will keep everyone posted on how it goes, but they are calling me on Friday to scheudle my first appointment.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
