I'm just starting the research on lapband surgery. A family physician recommended his wife's surgeon, Dr. Marina Kurian and as eager as I am to begin this process, I'm not sure financially this is something I can bare. can someone please elaborate on total costs of the procedure from first consultation to post surgery? Especially those who are patients of Dr. Kurian's. Thanks so much,

NYU ( where she works) has few sessions a month that are required to attend to begin the process...

At that session I was told it is 16k upfront... That was in Jan 2011

With insurance or without?

With insurance you pay close to $3,000 out of pocket for surgery and anesthesia, plus all the appointments, tests and stuff before hand, and then your fills after. Even with insurance it's quite an expense.

I think without insurance it's between $13,000-$16,000.
